Job description

Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Maintenance Helper supporting the Deep Space Network DSN) in Fort Irwin, CA with JPL/NASA.

The Deep Space Network is NASA's international array of giant radio antennas that supports interplanetary spacecraft missions, plus a few that orbit Earth. The DSN also provides radar and radio astronomy observations that improve our understanding of the solar system and the larger universe. The antennas of the Deep Space Network are the indispensable link to explorers venturing beyond the moon. They provide the crucial connection for commanding our spacecraft and receiving their never-before-seen images and scientific information on Earth, propelling our understanding of the universe, our solar system and ultimately, our place within it.

Maintenance Helpers provides labor and knowledge to all skilled technicians by performing related tasks like changing light bulbs, handing tools, cleaning, painting, plumbing, minor electrical work and assisting with all related repairs.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with all plumbing, carpentry, concrete work, antenna and building painting, tiling, plastering and landscaping.
  • Repair, replacement and servicing of antenna and building structures and associated mechanical, electrical and sanitary systems and ancillary structures, machinery or equipment.
  • Supports Facilities personnel in the repair of mechanical systems such as plant equipment, compressed air, water, gas, pumps, fuel pumps, light vehicles, and heavy equipment.
  • Performing general repair and upkeep maintenance on all plumbing and sewage systems such as traps, purification systems, septic tanks, sanitary systems, plumbing equipment, etc.
  • Also responsible for assisting with work performed in the Heavy Equipment shop and Resource Conservation/Recovery, and Custodial tasks.
  • Trimming Shrubbery/Trees, edging, site debris clean-up, weed abatement, weed eater, rock raking/scaping, install/removal/maintenance of new/dead plants, trees. Installation/maintenance for all the site irrigation system timers, irrigation pipe and anti-siphon valves, bubblers, lawn heads.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma (or GED) plus a minimum of five years of direct experience across multiple trades, specifically plumbing, carpentry, and landscaping
  • Competent with hand/power tools and cleaning equipment; strong focus on safety
  • Ability to perform heaving lifting and manual labor consistent with construction and landscaping demands
  • Strong problem-solver and effective communicator dedicated to safety, time management and high-quality craftsmanship
  • Great hand-eye coordination for intricate carpentry, pipe fitting, and technical tool operation
  • Must be able to obtain a trusted background check and pass a National Criminal Information Check (NCIC). In order to obtain clearance, you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship
  • Must possess and retain a valid Driver's License (Real ID)
