Nasa Data Visualization information

What is a NASA Data Visualization specialist?

A NASA Data Visualization specialist is a professional who transforms complex scientific and engineering data from NASA missions into visual formats such as charts, graphs, animations, or interactive tools. Their work helps scientists, engineers, and the public understand large and intricate datasets from space missions, research, and experiments. They use specialized software and design principles to make data more accessible, insightful, and engaging. These specialists often collaborate with researchers to ensure accuracy and clarity in representing scientific findings.

What is the difference between Nasa Data Visualization vs Data Analyst?

AspectNasa Data VisualizationData Analyst
Required CredentialsBackground in science, engineering, or data visualization; often requires advanced degreesBachelor's or higher in statistics, mathematics, or related fields
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, space agencies, government projectsBusiness, finance, healthcare, or tech industries
Employer & Industry UsagePrimarily government agencies like NASA, research institutionsPrivate companies, consulting firms, corporations
Common Search & Comparison IntentUnderstanding specialized visualization roles in space/scienceAnalyzing data for business insights

While both roles involve working with data visualization, Nasa Data Visualization focuses on creating visual representations of scientific and space data within government and research settings. Data Analysts, on the other hand, interpret and analyze data to inform business decisions across various industries. The skills overlap in data visualization tools, but their applications and environments differ significantly.

What are the main challenges someone in a NASA Data Visualization role might face when presenting complex data to diverse audiences?

One of the primary challenges in a NASA Data Visualization role is translating complex scientific data into visuals that are understandable for both technical and non-technical audiences. You'll often work with multidisciplinary teams, including scientists, engineers, and public outreach professionals, each with different levels of data literacy. Balancing accuracy with clarity, ensuring accessibility, and adapting visualizations for various formats (such as reports, presentations, or interactive dashboards) are key aspects of the job. Regular collaboration and feedback from stakeholders are essential to refine visual outputs and ensure that critical insights are communicated effectively.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a NASA Data Visualization specialist?

To thrive as a NASA Data Visualization Specialist, you need strong analytical skills, a background in data science or a related field, and experience with visual storytelling. Proficiency with tools like Python, MATLAB, Tableau, and GIS software, as well as familiarity with NASA data formats, is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for translating complex datasets into impactful visual insights. These capabilities are essential to accurately convey scientific findings and support mission-critical decision-making at NASA.

Job description

Field AI is transforming how robots interact with the real world. We are building risk-aware, reliable, and field-ready AI systems that address the most complex challenges in robotics, unlocking the full potential of embodied intelligence. We go beyond typical data-driven approaches or pure transformer-based architectures, and are charting a new course, with already-globally-deployed solutions delivering real-world results and rapidly improving models through real-field applications.

We’re looking for a Software Engineer, Product to build and own customer-facing products at the intersection of embodied AI, robotics, and real-world data. You’ll work closely with AI, robotics, product, and commercial teams to transform robotically captured data from complex construction environments into intuitive, high-impact software used on active job sites around the world.

This is a hands-on role for engineers who enjoy shipping real products, operating close to customers, and seeing their work deployed beyond a lab or dashboard.
What You Will Get To Do
  • Own full-stack product features from design through production
  • Build scalable backend services using Node.js (Express) and Python
  • Develop modern, high-performance frontends using React
  • Implement 3D visualization features using Three.js / WebGL
  • Design APIs, data models, and system architectures using clean design principlesPartner closely with AI, robotics, product, and commercial teams
  • Debug performance issues and optimize rendering, data, and API pipelinesContribute to shared codebases and raise engineering quality through reviews and collaboration
What You Have
  • Typically 5–10+ years of experience building and shipping production software
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript, JavaScript, Node.js, and React
  • Solid system design skills across data modeling, APIs, and UI/UX tradeoffsExperience working with MongoDB and Redis (or similar databases)Hands-on experience deploying and operating applications in AWS (or equivalent cloud platforms)
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills across technical and non-technical teams
What Will Set You Apart
  • Experience with BIM or construction technology workflows
  • Experience with 3D graphics technologies (Three.js, WebGL, shaders, or similar)
  • Familiarity with monorepo architectures (Nx, Lerna)
  • Experience integrating with Autodesk platforms (Revit, APS/Forge)Proficiency using the AWS SDK
  • Background working on complex, data-rich, or real-time systems
Our salary range is generous and we take into consideration an individual's background and experience in determining final salary; base pay offered may vary considerably depending on geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Why Join Field AI?
We are solving one of the world’s most complex challenges: deploying robots in unstructured, previously unknown environments. Our Field Foundational Models™ set a new standard in perception, planning, localization, and manipulation, ensuring our approach is explainable and safe for deployment.

You will have the opportunity to work with a world-class team that thrives on creativity, resilience, and bold thinking. With a decade-long track record of deploying solutions in the field, winning DARPA challenge segments, and bringing expertise from organizations like DeepMind, NASA JPL, Boston Dynamics, NVIDIA, Amazon, Tesla Autopilot, Cruise Self-Driving, Zoox, Toyota Research Institute, and SpaceX, we are set to achieve our ambitious goals.

Be Part of the Next Robotics Revolution
To tackle such ambitious challenges, we need a team as unique as our vision — innovators who go beyond conventional methods and are eager to tackle tough, uncharted questions. We’re seeking individuals who challenge the status quo, dive into uncharted territory, and bring interdisciplinary expertise. Our team requires not only top AI talent but also exceptional software developers, engineers, product designers, field deployment experts, and communicators.
