Position Summary

The Host/Hostess is the first point of contact for guests and plays a key role in creating a warm, welcoming, and memorable dining experience. This position is responsible for greeting guests, managing reservations and waitlists, coordinating seating, and supporting the overall flow of service within the restaurant or dining venue. The ideal candidate provides exceptional hospitality while ensuring efficient guest seating and communication between the front-of-house and culinary teams.

This role pays an hourly rate of $19.00-$22.00

Oak View Group is proud to operate the food and beverage program at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. The hospitality operation features a diverse portfolio of dining experiences, including a multi-concept cafe, a modern luxury restaurant, a licensed Starbucks location, and a robust special events catering program. The team is dedicated to delivering exceptional guest experiences through outstanding food, service, and hospitality within one of the nation's premier cultural destinations.

Responsibilities
  • Welcome guests with a friendly, professional, and engaging demeanor.
  • Manage reservations, walk-in guests, and waitlists using the restaurant reservation system.
  • Escort guests to their tables and provide menus as appropriate.
  • Answer guest questions regarding menu offerings, restaurant amenities, and venue information.
  • Thank guests upon departure and invite them to return.
  • Coordinate seating assignments to maximize efficiency while maintaining excellent guest service.
  • Communicate effectively with servers, managers, and culinary staff regarding table status and guest needs.
  • Monitor dining room activity to ensure smooth service flow and balanced server sections.
  • Maintain accurate wait times and keep guests informed of seating availability.
  • Assist in preparing the dining room before service and resetting tables as needed.
  • Answer telephone calls and assist guests with reservations and general inquiries.
  • Update reservation systems with accurate guest information and special requests.
  • Maintain organized guest lists and seating charts.
  • Assist with administrative duties related to guest services as assigned.
  • Assist servers by delivering water, menus, or other guest amenities as needed.
  • Help maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the host stand, lobby, and entrance areas.
  • Support special events, private dining functions, and VIP guest experiences.
  • Collaborate with all front-of-house team members to ensure an exceptional dining experience.
  • Follow all company policies, health regulations, and food safety standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Practice responsible guest service and maintain professionalism at all times.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous customer service or restaurant experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience in hospitality, hotels, restaurants, private clubs, performing arts venues, or entertainment venues is a plus.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
  • Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication and telephone etiquette.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Basic computer and reservation system experience preferred.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects occasionally.
  • Frequent walking, reaching, bending, and light lifting.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
