Position Type:Permanent Full Time/Part Time:Full Time

$27.40 to $30.14 hourly.Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications.Government Center/Viera. Work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.Performs skilled technical work inspecting, investigating, and enforcing codes, ordinances, and regulations pertaining to unlicensed construction contractor activity, contractors working outside of their classifications, and permitting, zoning, land use and property maintenance, solid waste, housing, vehicle abatement, marine turtle lighting, adult entertainment, blight, and health and safety.

REQUIREMENTS: Two (2) years [60 semester or 90 quarter hours] of college-level credit with major coursework in Sociology, Psychology, Allied Legal Services, Criminal Justice, Business Administration or a closely related field PLUS eight (8) years of experience in investigations or in civil investigation, criminal investigation, the building construction field with knowledge of building codes and regulations, or a closely related field interpreting and explaining rules, codes, and/or regulations, including three (3) years of experience in performing compliance inspections; OR ten (10) years of experience as a local government licensing investigator, building code inspector, code enforcement officer, law enforcement officer, or a closely related field; OR two years as a Brevard County Contractor & Code Compliance Officer III, Code Enforcement Officer III, or Licensing Regulation & Enforcement Officer III PLUS successful completion of all of the classes for all three (3) phases of the Brevard County Employee Development Program and received a passing score on all phase examinations PLUS a current Florida Association of Code Enforcement (FACE) Fundamentals of Code Enforcement certification (previously Level I) PLUS must possess, or obtain within eighteen (18) months of reclassification, any two (2) of the following FACE certifications: Administrative Aspects of Code Enforcement (previously Level II), Legal Issues in Code Enforcement (previously Level III), or Officer Safety and Field Applications (previously Level IV) PLUS successful completion any one (1) of the following approved Brevard County leadership courses: 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, 5 Choices to Extraordinary Productivity, Emotional Intelligence, The Multiplier Effect, What's Your Sign?, or another approved Brevard County course PLUS documentation of maintenance of assigned cases as required with at least eighty percent (80%) of assigned cases within the previous six (6) months having an initial inspection within fourteen (14) business days of receive and either a Compliance Achieved or a Citation or Notice or Violation (NOV) issued with twenty-one (21) business days of receipt PLUS a current performance evaluation score of 4.00 or higher, with no performance evaluation factors with a rating of a 1 or a 2. Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida driver's license and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, the Florida Association of Code Enforcement (FACE) Fundamentals of Code Enforcement (previously Level I) certification PLUS must possess, or obtain within eighteen (18) months of employment, any two (2) of the following FACE certifications: Administrative Aspects of Code Enforcement (previously Level II), Legal Issues in Code Enforcement (previously Level III), or Officer Safety and Field Applications (previously Level IV) and maintain all certifications during the term of employment. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.

EXTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY: Must successfully complete, within twenty-four (24) months of employment, all of the classes for all three (3) phases of the Brevard County Employee Development Program and receive a passing score on each phase examination. Must successfully complete, within eighteen (18) months of employment, any one (1) of the following approved Brevard County leadership courses: 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, 5 Choices to Extraordinary Productivity, Emotional Intelligence, The Multiplier Effect, What's Your Sign?, or another approved Brevard County course.
