Job description

About MY LANE

MY LANE is a 501(c)(3) public charity building WISE COUNSEL - a U.S.-patented (Patent #11,836,821 B2), voice-activated mobile app that puts a live attorney in the passenger seat of every at-risk citizen during police stops and ICE encounters, at no cost to the user.

WISE COUNSEL is the technology answer. Say "WISE COUNSEL Now!" and the app connects you to a licensed local attorney via secure video, cloud-records the encounter as legal evidence, and notifies a loved one of your location. It's all bilingual (English/Spanish) with specialized ICE encounter guidance.

We have the patent, the 501(c)(3) status, 562+ citizens on the VIP waitlist, an attorney recruitment pipeline, and a founding team. What we need now is a working board to help us launch.

The Role: Working Board Member

This is a working board, not a traditional governance board. We're pre-launch and need members who will actively build alongside the founding team, providing both board-level oversight AND hands-on contributions in your area of expertise.

We're recruiting one board member in each of the following four areas:

  1. Tech - Software engineers, mobile developers, or AI builders to help ship WISE COUNSEL (code proficiency preferred but not required if AI-building skills are strong)
  2. Legal - Judges, attorneys, or legal operations professionals to advise on civil rights, immigration, attorney network strategy, and compliance
  3. Finance - Bankers, CPAs, or nonprofit finance leaders to build our financial infrastructure and steward our sponsor revenue model
  4. Fundraising - Development professionals to lead corporate sponsor outreach, foundation grants, and individual giving
What You'll Do
  • Lead or contribute to a working committee aligned with your expertise
  • Roll up your sleeves on real deliverables, not just oversight
  • Open doors in your professional network (attorneys, sponsors, funders, builders)
  • Help us recruit, raise, and launch
Time Commitment

Approximately 10โ€“30 hours per week, depending on your role and launch phase. We operate remotely and asynchronously, supported by AI-assisted workflows.

Future Opportunity

As MY LANE secures funding through our corporate sponsor program (Gold/Silver/Bronze tiers at $40โ€“$80 per app sponsored) and foundation grants, founding working board members may have the opportunity to transition into compensated executive roles aligned with their expertise.

Who We're Looking For

Self-directed professionals who:

  • Believe technology can level the playing field for over-profiled Black, Brown, and immigrant communities
  • Thrive in pre-launch startup environments where structure is built as you go
  • Are comfortable working remotely with AI-supported tools and async collaboration
  • Want a ground-floor seat building something with a U.S. patent, 501(c)(3) status, and a clear path to launch

Prior nonprofit board experience is a plus but not required. What matters most is initiative, follow-through, and mission alignment.
