INTRODUCTION:
The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department mission: to preserve our parks and open spaces and provide essential recreational programs and cultural services in a safe, professional, and friendly manner. The department manages parks totaling over 1,100 acres, 5 community centers, and many other facilities to provide a wide variety of recreational opportunities.
POSITION PURPOSE:
Under the direction of the Community Center Recreation Supervisor/Director, this individual will assist in providing and overseeing recreational activities for citizens of all ages, as well as day-to-day building operations. This includes engaging participants in a wide range of programs and managing activities across multiple spaces such as gymnasiums, game rooms, art rooms, ceramics studios, and music rooms.
Essential Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Supervise and monitor assigned areas within the community center, including gyms, art rooms, ceramics studios, music rooms, game rooms, and other activity spaces.
  • Plan, organize, and implement center activities for diverse age groups.
  • Assist with the development and coordination of youth, adult, and senior programming in various program areas.
  • Supervise and engage participants in activities, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment.
  • Supervise and counsel youth - limited to scope of training.
  • Provide support during special events and field trips as assigned.
  • Use of computers and office technology to complete routine administrative and operational tasks.
  • Any other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and abide by our organization's values.

ASSOCIATED DUTIES:
  • Maintain and organize equipment and supplies for multiple program areas, reporting needed repairs promptly.
  • Open, close, and secure the community center as scheduled.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and program participation records.
  • Promote and maintain safety within the facility, responding appropriately to incidents and emergencies.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS OF THE POSITION:
  • Air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned work areas.
  • Exposure to heat and cold elements while working with the public indoors and outdoors.
  • Exposure to odors from cleaning products, floor strippers and waxes.
  • Exposure to moving objects such as recreation equipment may occur.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Reliable transportation to travel between community center locations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Previous experience working with youth, teens, adults, and seniors in a recreation or community-based setting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Ability to facilitate a variety of programs, including arts, sports, music, games, and educational activities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to resolve conflict in a professional, polite, and equitable manner.
  • Flexibility to work at any of the five community centers located throughout the City of Racine, as assigned.
  • A demonstrated history of excellent work attendance.
  • Ability to operate a computer and use basic software applications, including email and word processing programs, with a willingness to learn new technology and systems as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE POSITION:
  • Some extended day, evening, and weekend hours are required.
  • Possible exposure to extreme elements of heat and cold.
  • Ability to manage stressful situations when working with the public.
