Position Overview
Prophetstown-Lyndon-Tampico seeks an inspiring music teacher who will be responsible for teaching vocal music to students grades K-5, 5th grade Beginner Band. This individual will assist fellow school staff in the improvement and appreciation of music instruction. They help students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences which include singing, moving to music, listening, instrument playing, and performing other duties directly related to this job description.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teaches general music to K-5 and Band 5th grade beginner band.
  • Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
  • Plans, rehearses, and directs students in three musical programs for school and community (Christmas Program, Veterans Day Assemblies, Spring Program (3rd-5th))
  • Differentiate music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body.
  • Plans a balanced music program and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  • Develops and refines music curriculum based on Illinois Arts Learning Standards of creating, performing, responding, and connecting.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, music performances and classroom experiences.
  • Evaluate each student's musical growth and contribution throughout the year, allowing each student to participate in the classroom and performancing experiences.
  • Communicates clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students.
  • Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music and musical equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
  • Cooperation with Principal and staff in providing musical programs for school assemblies, open house, parent meetings, and seasonal programs.
  • Participate in building committees.

Qualifications Required
  • Minimum BA in Music or Music Education
  • Ability to work with musicians at all skill levels

Highly Recommended Qualifications
  • Strong instrumental skills
