About the Position
Reporting to the Senior School Music Teacher and Curriculum Leader, you will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing a variety of musical instruments used by students and staff. This includes band, string, and percussion instruments, ensuring they remain in safe and optimal working condition for educational and performance purposes.
The Instrument Repair Technician will diagnose mechanical issues, perform routine maintenance and repairs, and recommend cost-effective solutions to extend the lifespan of instruments. This position may be particularly suitable for a freelance instrument repair technician or an advanced student currently completing studies in instrument repair and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
Inspect, assess, and repair band, string, and percussion instruments.
Remove dents and perform minor structural repairs on brass and woodwind instruments.
Carry out soldering and brazing repairs as required.
Repair and adjust valves, keys, pads, springs, and other instrument mechanisms.
Perform preventative maintenance to ensure instruments remain in good working order.
Assist with basic repairs and maintenance of string instruments, including bridges, pegs, and fittings.
Support repairs and maintenance of percussion instruments and related equipment.
Maintain accurate records of repairs completed and recommend replacement parts or equipment when necessary.
Ensure repairs are completed efficiently, safely, and cost-effectively.
Assess instrument damage and determine whether repairs are required due to normal wear and tear or negligent use, documenting findings and providing recommendations to support cost control and accountability.

Experience performing instrument repairs, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Ability to learn and apply repair methods for a wide range of musical instruments.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and manage assigned repair projects.
Previous experience as an instrument repair technician is an asset.
Enrollment in or completion of a recognized instrument repair program is considered an asset.

Reportant a l'enseignant(e) de musique et du responsable du programme de l'ecole secondaire, la personne titulaire du poste sera responsable d'inspecter, d'entretenir et de reparer une variete d'instruments de musique utilises par les eleves et les membres du personnel. Cela comprend les instruments a vent, les instruments a cordes et les percussions, afin de s'assurer qu'ils demeurent securitaires et en parfait etat de fonctionnement pour les activites pedagogiques et les prestations musicales.
Le ou la technicien(ne) en reparation d'instruments diagnostiquera les problemes mecaniques, effectuera l'entretien courant et les reparations necessaires, et recommandera des solutions rentables permettant de prolonger la duree de vie des instruments. Ce poste pourrait particulierement convenir a un(e) technicien(ne) independant(e) en reparation d'instruments ou a un(e) etudiant(e) avance(e) actuellement inscrit(e) dans un programme de reparation et d'entretien d'instruments.
Principales responsabilites
Inspecter, evaluer et reparer les instruments a vent, a cordes et de percussion.
Debosseler et effectuer des reparations structurelles mineures sur les cuivres et les bois.
Effectuer des travaux de soudure et de brasage, au besoin.
Reparer et ajuster les pistons, cles, tampons, ressorts et autres mecanismes des instruments.
Effectuer l'entretien preventif afin de maintenir les instruments en bon etat de fonctionnement.
Effectuer des reparations et des travaux d'entretien de base sur les instruments a cordes, notamment les chevalets, chevilles et accessoires.
Participer a la reparation et a l'entretien des instruments de percussion et de l'equipement connexe.
Tenir des registres precis des reparations effectuees et recommander le remplacement de pieces ou d'equipements lorsque necessaire.
Veiller a ce que les reparations soient effectuees de maniere efficace, securitaire et economique.
Evaluer les dommages aux instruments et determiner si les reparations sont attribuables a l'usure normale ou a une utilisation negligente, documenter les constatations et formuler des recommandations afin de favoriser le controle des couts et la responsabilisation.

Une experience anterieure comme technicien(ne) en reparation d'instruments constitue un atout.
Une inscription ou un diplome d'un programme reconnu en reparation d'instruments constitue un atout.
