Job Summary: The Middle School Music Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering music instruction to Middle School students in the areas of Band, Piano, and Guitar. The teacher will cultivate musical skill development, creativity, performance excellence, and appreciation for music through engaging and structured instruction. The Music teacher will provide professional instruction to students using Biblical principles and a Christian worldview. In addition to delivering content, the teacher will foster student growth, contribute to a positive school culture, and collaborate with staff, parents, and administrators to support student success.


School Year: 2026-2027

Terms: Full Time, 9-Months


Essential Functions:


Instructional Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and deliver music lessons based on curriculum standards and student skill levels in Band, Piano, and Guitar.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies and musical resources to meet the needs of students with varying musical abilities and experience levels.
  • Teach foundational and advanced musical concepts including rhythm, notation, technique, chord structure, arpeggios, and performance skills.
  • Provide instruction in multiple musical styles and techniques appropriate for Band, Piano, and Guitar classes.
  • Transpose music for Band instruments as needed to support student learning and performance preparation.
  • Teach proper instrument care, maintenance, and classroom procedures related to music equipment and materials.
  • Prepare students for and lead rehearsals for Christmas and Spring musical concerts, while assisting in the planning and execution of performances.
  • Assess student performance using formal and informal assessments, including performances, playing tests, projects, and classroom participation, to monitor progress and adjust instruction as necessary.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to promote musical growth and mastery of content.

Classroom Management

  • Establish and maintain clear expectations for behavior, creating a respectful, safe, and positive learning environment.
  • Implement strategies to manage behavior effectively, ensuring a productive classroom environment for all students.
  • Address individual student needs, including academic support or behavioral intervention, in a professional and supportive manner.
  • Create an encouraging classroom atmosphere where students are challenged to grow musically while leading with a Christ-like heart.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate with colleagues in subject-specific teams, interdisciplinary groups, and school-wide committees to ensure a consistent and integrated learning experience for all students.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, performance expectations, achievements, and concerns through conferences, phone calls, or emails.
  • Work collaboratively with administration and school staff to coordinate concerts, performances, and special events.

Curriculum and Instructional Planning

  • Integrate Biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education into music instruction and student interactions.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate engaging lesson plans that incorporate repertoire, technique development, music theory, and performance preparation.
  • Utilize a variety of musical excerpts, repertoire, and supplemental resources to develop students musically beyond standard textbook instruction.

Professional Development

  • Stay up to date with developments in music education, instructional strategies, educational research, and best practices in teaching.
  • Participate in professional development activities, including workshops, conferences, and in-service training, to continually improve instructional skills and content knowledge.
  • Contribute to the professional learning community by sharing strategies, resources, and insights with colleagues.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, assessments, and performance participation.
  • Prepare and submit reports, progress reports, and other documentation in a timely manner or as directed by the Middle School Principal.
  • Participate in school meetings, parent-teacher meetings, performances, and extracurricular activities as needed.
  • Follow all school policies and procedures, including those related to safety and discipline.
Requirements:
  • Have received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and demonstrate a lifestyle consistent with the schoolโ€™s mission to honor Christ.
  • Agree with and support the schoolโ€™s Mission Statement, Statement of Faith, and Philosophy of Education.
  • Cooperate and comply with school administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing school operations.
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree or higher in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field and related experience. Masterโ€™s degree preferred.
  • Required: New Mexico state teaching credential, ACSI certification, or ACTS certification acceptable.
  • Experience teaching middle school students preferred.
  • Experience teaching Band, Piano, and/or Guitar in an educational setting preferred.
  • Strong understanding of music theory, instrumental techniques, ensemble instruction, and performance preparation.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to create a positive, engaging, and Christ-centered classroom environment.
  • Knowledge and experience with differentiated instruction, classroom technology, and educational software.
