Company Description The Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History is a cultural institution dedicated to exploring and sharing the American Jewish experience. Located in Philadelphia, PA, the museum offers exhibitions, public programs, and educational initiatives that highlight themes of identity, heritage, and civic engagement. It serves a diverse audience of local community members, tourists, students, and scholars. Team members work in a mission-driven environment that values inclusion, learning, and meaningful visitor experiences. With over 40% of the Museum recently renovated, the Weitzman has two outstanding new exhibitions open, as well as a brand new Museum Store.


Role Description The Sales Associate is a part-time (18-30 hours/wk.), on-site position based in Philadelphia, PA, supporting retail operations and guest services at the museum. Day-to-day responsibilities include welcoming visitors, providing knowledgeable and courteous assistance in the museum store, processing sales transactions, handling cash and electronic payments, fulfilling and shipping web orders, and maintaining an organized, attractive sales floor. The Sales Associate will restock merchandise, assist with inventory counts, answer product and museum-related questions, and support special events or promotions as needed. The role also includes collaborating with colleagues to ensure a positive visitor experience, following museum policies and procedures, and contributing to a safe, inclusive environment for all guests and team members.


Qualifications


  • Customer service skills, including the ability to engage warmly with diverse visitors, listen actively, and resolve issues professionally.
  • Point-of-sale and cash handling skills, with attention to accuracy in processing transactions and managing basic store operations.
  • Shopify or similar online platform experience a plus
  • Communication skills, including clear verbal communication and the ability to convey information about products, exhibits, and museum programs.
  • Organizational and time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks, restock merchandise, and maintain a clean, orderly retail space. Merchandising skills a plus.
  • Teamwork and collaboration skills, with a flexible mindset and willingness to support colleagues during busy periods and special events.
  • Interest in museums, cultural institutions, or Jewish and American history, and a commitment to inclusive, respectful engagement with all visitors.
  • Prior retail experience required.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, move merchandise as needed (within 30 lb. weight limits), climb a step-ladder, and work a schedule that includes weekends and holidays.
