Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

To perform routine security duties either on tour or at a fixed post, maintaining order and a safe environment for guests and employees.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Greet Guest
  • Provide general information and orientation to the public.
  • Monitor cleaning services at the museum.
  • Advise museum staff of needed repairs, malfunctions or other cleaningl/maintenance issues.
  • Perform routine security checks.
  • Perform preventative conservation and maintenance tasks.
  • Provide staff coverage during events at the museum.
  • Makes scheduled tours of Museum and grounds by vehicle or walking to ensure security, and watches for conditions that could result in injury or loss due to fire, water leakage, spills, or inclement weather.
  • Reports to supervisor or police authorities any unusual or suspicious condition detected.
  • Reports to supervisor any action by visitor, driver, or employee that could cause injury or loss to company or workers.
  • Participates in fire safety program as part of Museum safety program.
  • Any other duties, as may be required by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to read simple instructions and operate independently during shift.
  • Police department training or previous security guard experience preferred.
  • Valid state driver’s license.
  • Good judgment about when a situation or incident should be reported.

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Sufficient vision (with correction) to read and to observe more distant objects.
  • Ability to do considerable walking in order to make rounds of the facility.
  • Ability to communicate with associates and guests.
  • Ability to read, count and write to accurately complete all documentation.
  • Ability to operate and use all equipment necessary to run the Museum.
  • Ability to climb ladders.
  • Ability to move or handle merchandise throughout the Museum generally weighing 0-50 pounds.
  • Ability to work varied hours/days as business dictates.
