Job Description:
Objective: As a student employee in Design Den, students will help museum visitors to engage with new materials, tools, and ideas in making and tinkering spaces. Students will ensure high quality customer service to guests of the Design Den and facilitate educational activities. This is an on-your-feet job.
Staff Design Den During Open Hours
Greet visitors and orient them to Design Den, providing excellent customer service.
Maintain comprehensive knowledge about tools and materials in Makerspace, including
Assist visitors on their projects in Design Den as requested and encourage problem solving.
Upkeep of Design Den Exhibit Space
Manage supplies in Design Den. This includes setting up for the day, re-stocking, organizing, ensuring supplies are in working order, and end of day re-setting.
Work to keep storage closets and supplies organized.
Manage supply inventories and communicate with Museum Engagement Team staff when supplies are running low.
Support Teen Volunteers in Design Den, when necessary, ensuring they are comfortable and well trained.
Evaluation, Observations, Reflection
Take detailed observations in Design Den, both qualitative and quantitative, and assist in documentation.
Meet with supervisor regularly to reflect on visitor behavior and
Research innovative ways to evaluate Design Den programs and events.
Tinkering Training and Research
Become familiar with various making tools and programs including leather working, sewing and fiber craft, paper craft, woodworking, etc.
Research ways to use recycled materials in making/tinkering and assist with collection of supplies.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Assist with covering on Museum Engagement team as needed with general museum programming and Spark Team
