Familiarity with materials like acrylics, spray paints, scaffolding, and sometimes graphic design software is valuable, and certifications in safety or public art may be required for certain projects. These competencies ensure murals are visually impactful, safely executed, and tailored to their intended environments.

Muralists often work closely with clients, project managers, and sometimes other artists to ensure the design aligns with the client's vision and the space's requirements. Collaboration usually involves presenting initial concepts, incorporating feedback, and coordinating logistics such as timelines, materials, and installation processes. Regular communication and flexibility are key, as muralists may need to adapt their designs based on site conditions or team input. This collaborative approach helps create a finished mural that is both visually impactful and tailored to the client’s needs.
