Job Summary:
The K-12 Mathematics Coordinator collaborates with the Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment (CIA) Team to increase mathematics achievement and engagement for all students in grades K-12 while building teacher and leader capacity. The incumbent provides leadership in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning to ensure a coherent, standards-aligned mathematics program across all grade levels.
The Coordinator supports the implementation of high-quality instructional materials and research-based instructional practices through mentoring, coaching, and collaboration with teachers and administrators. Responsibilities include leading curriculum implementation and alignment, coordinating professional learning, supporting Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), analyzing student achievement data to inform instructional decisions, and partnering with school leaders to strengthen instructional practices and improve student outcomes in mathematics.
Odyssey's Coaching Program is designed to provide support for teachers in the classroom while encouraging professional leadership roles throughout the District. The Coordinator works side-by-side with teachers to improve student learning outcomes, spending at least 80% of their time directly supporting teaching and learning through coaching, demonstration lessons, collaborative planning, and job-embedded professional learning. The Coordinator serves as a thought partner to teachers and administrators, promoting rigorous mathematics instruction, problem-solving, conceptual understanding, and mathematical discourse.
As a member of the CIA Team, the Coordinator also supports the implementation of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) across grades K-12, ensuring a continuum of mathematics instruction, intervention, and enrichment that meets the needs of all learners. Responsibilities may include supporting universal screening, analyzing assessment data, coordinating intervention and enrichment efforts, monitoring student progress, and evaluating the effectiveness of instructional practices and programs.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must hold or be eligible for Delaware certification.
  • Mathematics certification required.
  • Elementary and/or Secondary Mathematics certification preferred.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum five years of successful teaching experience in mathematics.
  • Experience coaching teachers or leading professional learning.
  • Demonstrated success improving mathematics achievement.
  • Strong knowledge of K-12 mathematics progressions and instructional practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Instructional Leadership
  • Leads implementation of the K-12 mathematics curriculum.
  • Supports consistent implementation of high-quality instructional materials.
  • Coaches teachers through instructional cycles.
  • Models effective mathematics instruction through demonstration lessons.
  • Supports principals in improving mathematics instruction.

Curriculum
  • Ensures vertical alignment from Kindergarten through Algebra II/Calculus.
  • Coordinates curriculum revisions.
  • Leads curriculum mapping.
  • Supports pacing guides and unit planning.

Assessment & Data
  • Coordinates district math assessments.
  • Leads data analysis after benchmark and state assessments.
  • Supports teachers and principals in using assessment data.
  • Monitors student achievement trends.

Professional Learning
  • Designs and facilitates K-12 professional development.
  • Leads PLCs.
  • Supports new teachers.
  • Coordinates math initiatives.

MTSS
  • Supports intervention systems.
  • Reviews intervention data.
  • Helps identify students needing additional support.
  • Coordinates enrichment opportunities.

Collaboration
  • Partners with principals.
  • Works with special education, ML, interventionists, and curriculum teams.
  • Represents Odyssey at DOE mathematics meetings.
  • Serves as the primary math content expert.

Standard Requirements:
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills to deal effectively with students, educators, parents, and community members.
  • Knowledgeable about formative and diagnostic assessments and research based instructional practices.
  • Equity driven, demonstrated sensitivity to issues impacting various cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic groups.
  • Superior grasp of effective instructional and behavioral methods and strategies for educating urban youth including but not limited to right brained restorative practices (trauma informed practices), culturally responsive teaching, Social Emotional Learning, grading for equity and coaching for equity.
