What is mulch?

Mulch workers are individuals who specialize in applying, spreading, and sometimes removing mulch in gardens, landscapes, and commercial properties. Their primary responsibility is to ensure that mulch is distributed evenly around plants, trees, and flower beds to help retain soil moisture, suppress weeds, and enhance the appearance of outdoor spaces. Mulch workers may also operate equipment such as wheelbarrows, rakes, and blowers to complete their tasks efficiently. They often work for landscaping companies or as part of groundskeeping teams. Attention to detail and knowledge of different types of mulch are important skills for this job.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a mulch installer?

To thrive as a Mulch Installer, you need a strong work ethic, physical stamina, and basic landscaping knowledge, often supported by experience in groundskeeping or horticulture. Familiarity with landscaping tools such as wheelbarrows, shovels, and mulch spreaders is typically required. Attention to detail, teamwork, and effective communication help ensure projects are completed efficiently and to client specifications. These skills and qualities ensure high-quality results, safety, and customer satisfaction in landscaping projects.

What are some common challenges faced by mulch delivery drivers, and how can they be managed effectively?

Mulch delivery drivers often encounter challenges such as navigating large trucks through residential neighborhoods, managing tight delivery schedules, and ensuring that mulch is delivered to the correct location on a property. Effective communication with customers and dispatchers, familiarity with local routes, and careful attention to safety protocols can help manage these challenges. Additionally, maintaining the delivery vehicle and understanding proper loading and unloading techniques are crucial for job success and customer satisfaction.

Job description

Team Lead – Mulch Blowing Operations (CDL Required)

About Us

PC Services, LLC is a new and exciting company founded in 2022 that provides landscape companies with labor-saving mulch, topsoil, and aggregate installation solutions. We are unlike any other “mulch blowing” company — we understand that there’s life beyond work. Our focus is on exceptional service, safe and conscientious driving, and building a team that takes pride in quality workmanship.

Position Overview

We are seeking a full-time Team Lead / Material Installer / CDL Truck Driver with a positive attitude to join our growing team. This physically challenging, fast-paced role requires a Class A or B CDL with airbrake endorsement and the ability to lead a crew in the field. The Team Lead will be responsible for driving and operating blower trucks, supervising installation crews, and ensuring each project is completed efficiently, safely, and to company standards.

This position requires flexibility — long hours and 7-day availability during peak mulch season (spring and summer) with travel within our customer base area. During slower months, you’ll enjoy more time off while maintaining full-time employment with year-round pay.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely drive and operate blower trucks to install a variety of materials (mulch, soil, playground chips, aggregate).
  • Supervise, train, and motivate crew members to achieve high productivity and quality.
  • Communicate professionally with clients to ensure satisfaction and represent the company positively.
  • Pull and set up 4–5” blower hoses, connect/drop hose lengths, and monitor material flow.
  • Budget and track material to ensure correct cubic yards are installed per client order.
  • Perform thorough job site cleanup in line with company standards.
  • Conduct daily truck inspections (pre-trip/post-trip), perform basic maintenance checks, and report repairs.
  • Proactively monitor safety hazards, enforce compliance with DOT and company safety standards, and take corrective action.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and storage areas in clean, safe, and operational condition.
  • Complete required reporting on crew hours, materials used, and job progress.

Qualifications

  • Valid Class A or B CDL with airbrake endorsement (required).
  • Experience operating large trucks and/or heavy equipment.
  • Prior leadership or crew management experience preferred.
  • Physically capable of pulling up to 150 lbs of hose (250 ft) and lifting 50 lbs regularly.
  • Strong work ethic with a willingness to work long hours during busy season.
  • Ability to travel and stay overnight when needed.
  • Knowledge of outdoor environments, job site safety, and DOT compliance.
  • Reliable transportation to and from our Columbus, OH location.
  • Must speak and understand English.

Schedule & Compensation

  • Full-time, year-round employment.
  • Peak season (spring/summer): Long hours, 7 days/week may be required.
  • Off-season (fall/winter): Reduced workload with steady 12-month pay for 9 months of work.
  • Competitive pay based on experience + overtime opportunities.
  • Benefits package including vacation, paid holidays, and more.

Why Join PC Services LLC?

  • Be part of a fast-growing, innovative company.
  • Work outdoors with a close-knit crew and premier customers.
  • Leadership role with room for growth and advancement.
  • Top pay structure — work 9 months, get paid for 12!
  • Training provided for motivated, hardworking individuals.
