Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Telemetry/Med-Surg position at a Magnet-designated Level III Trauma Center in Milwaukee, WI, requiring at least one year of telemetry experience and a WI or compact RN license.
Details
- Med-Surg/Office Based Surgery (OBS) unit with 27 beds in a 933-bed Magnet-designated, Level III Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center in Milwaukee, WI
- Patient population includes cardiac/heart failure, CHF, AFib and dysrhythmias, EP studies, Coumadin loading, cath lab, amputations, and pre-surgical patients
- RN-to-patient ratios: 1:4–5 (days/PMs, 0700–2330) and 1:6–8 (nights, 2300–0700); Tech ratios: 1:6 (days), 1:7 (nights)
- Required skills include cardiac drips (Primacor, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dobutamine), heparin, Lasix, and insulin drips, as well as chest tube management, trach care, telemetry reading, and wound care
- Charting via Epic (preferred); equipment includes Alaris pumps, Pyxis, and GE monitors
- 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0730, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Floating required to all inpatient areas within scope of practice, including occasional ICU for appropriate MS patient assignments (rare) and ED Holding at a 1:4 ratio; travelers float first and may be floated at any time during a shift to comparable floor acuity
- No on-call or callback requirements
- One holiday per contract required (one summer, one winter)
Requirements
- Active WI or compact RN license required
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 1 year of RN telemetry experience, with most recent experience within the last year
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Proficiency with cardiac drips, heparin, Lasix, insulin drips, chest tubes, trach care, telemetry reading, and wound care
- One professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the last year
- Must provide date of birth and last 4 digits of SSN (along with middle name or initial) for consideration
Additional Information
- Unit support includes a charge nurse, 24/7 unit secretary, 24/7 hospitalist, 24/7 respiratory therapy, centralized telemetry monitoring with a telemetry tech, and phlebotomy for peripheral blood draws
- Charge nurse carries 2–3 patients on days and a full assignment on nights
- Orientation consists of at least one shift to learn unit flow
- Pain assessment documentation is required before and after medication administration (1 hour post for oral medications), and the RN must ensure the medication ordered matches the patient's documented pain score
- Facility adheres to a fatigue policy limiting all staff, including travelers, to no more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts
- Scrubs of any color are acceptable; camouflage and denim prints are not permitted
