Job Description:

The Patient Care Assistant I is Part Time, Regular position working 2:30-7pm at Northpointe Imaging Center

Summary: To assist the radiologists and technologists to obtain the highest quality studies and to effect the most efficient workflow in the department.

General Description: The Patient Care Assistant - MRI must be able to: work effectively and efficiently in a fast paced environment in meeting continual deadlines; handle multiple priorities with constant interruptions; be highly organized to meet deadlines. Organizational skills are essential. Interacts with the radiologists, other departments within Inland Imaging, patients and family members and outside contacts. Excellent written, verbal and personal communication skills; be tactful and diplomatic; and be highly confidential. Makes decisions regarding daily work priorities and other decisions based on company policies and procedures.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Escort patients to exam rooms and instruct patient in the appropriate preparation for exam

Maintain clean, well stocked exam and dressing rooms

Pull previous studies and reports

Assist scheduling department with scheduling patients and call backs as needed

Assist Technologists with patients as needed

Interact with Nursing, Front Office Core, and Reading Room Assistants to ensure smooth work flow throughout the clinic or hospital

Maintain clean scan room environment

Use required computer programs proficiently

May transport patients to/from inpatient department or Emergency Room to/from Inland Imaging department.

Knowledgeable of hospital codes and infection status (if applicable)

This position may be required to work in a hospital, urgent care or clinical setting.

Performs other duties as assigned

Northpointe Location Only:

  • Prepare and setup Arthrogram injection tray.
  • Assist X-ray with preparing patients for exams when needed.

NWO Location Only:

  • Prepare billing slips for NWOS billing office to ensure accurate CPT code was selected. Deliver to 4th floor billing office.
  • Reminder calls for next day's MRI appointments.
  • Send messages of scheduled appointment to practice coordinators through the NWOS e-Medsys system. Scheduler will provide a list each morning.
  • Process new orders submitted by NWOS office for scheduling. Ensure order is complete and authorized. Send and label orders with comments to the Medicalis Worklist for scheduler to call.
  • Review old orders in Insurance pending folders for Medicalis worklist and request practice coordinator at NWOS for an update on the authorization process through e-Medsys as needed.

SHIC Location Only:

Completes the paperwork for biopsies and locs, lab work for specimens, consent formsand discharge instructions.

a. Consults the patients history and physical and fills out the biopsy procedure paperwork under the direction of the technologist and nurse

b. Fills out the paperwork for PAML (laboratory paperwork to process the specimen).

  • Delivers specimens to lab
  • Provides one on one patient support before, during and after a breast proceduresby:

a. Screening the patient.

b. Assists them in changing their clothes.

c. Escorts patient for IV placement.

d. Helps to position the patient on the biopsy table.

e. Stays with the patient after first set of images are obtained, while the technologist and radiologist plan the procedure.

f. Communicates timelines, what to expect as the procedure progresses to the patient.

g. The assistant is in constant presence with the patient from beginning of procedure to discharge.

  • Assists in setting up and cleaning up the MR Room, biopsy tray, biopsy table and biopsy machine
  • Assists with patient care after procedureby:

a. Holds pressure until bleeding has stopped.

b. Dresses incision.

c. Escorts patient to and from Mammogram Department and gives report of patient's condition and tolerance to the procedure to the mammography technologist.

d. Helps patient dress post procedure.

Keeps a QA spreadsheet regarding any complications regarding the Breast Biopsy table or biopsy equipment(ie; biopsy clip did not deploy properly, etc).

Keeps records of complications with equipment and/or procedure

Other duties as assigned

HFIC MRI Extremity Location Only:

Assist nurses with unexpected needs.

Participate in taking patient vital signs, under the direct supervision of the Nursing Staff

Occasionally assist sedated patients after their procedure

Obtain patient meals and snacks as necessary

Escort patients from waiting room to dressing room prior to nurse assessment

Manage laundry

Stock supplies

Clean and dress stretchers

Help maintain adequate levels of nursing supplies

General Duties and Responsibilities:

May be required to complete a course in back safety prior to working with patients

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality within the Inland Imaging companies and Inland's customers.

Honest, pleasant manner and good personal hygiene.

Free of alcohol and drug abuse.

Valid state driver's license and proof of insurance.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Detail oriented; ability to multi-task; organized and able to work in a fast paced environment.

Ability to consider individual needs in communication with and assessment and treatment of patients of all ages.

Follows company departmental standards and personnel policies by using good teamwork and communication skills to help identify concerns and solutions, assisting where needed to ensure a smooth functioning department.

Performs other duties as required by displaying team spirit and self-growth, accepting and performing other projects and responsibilities, and requesting other projects and responsibilities.

Rotates to other shifts and locations as needed.

Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays

Attendance is required for this position.

Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma/GED required

Experience: One year minimum experience in the medical field.

o Anatomy and medical terminology preferred.

o Medical office experience preferred.

o Understanding of MRI procedures to be read by radiologist preferred.

Computer Skills: Experience with the following computer applications is highly desired: Outlook; Kronos; Replicon; Imagecast; Stentor; IDXterm; Flowcast; Allscripts; Intranet, EPIC and Medicalis

Background Check:

o Must be able to pass a background check required by RCW 43.43.830-840 to work with children under the age of 16, developmentally disabled persons or vulnerable adults

o In order to comply with provisions set forth in Sections 1128 and 1156 of the Social Security Act, all new employees of Inland Imaging Clinical Associates, LLC will be checked against the LIST OF EXCLUDED INDIVIDUALS provided by the Department of Health & Human Services, Office of the Inspector General (OIG). Employees must not be included on this list.
