Job description

The Senior Maintenance Specialist is responsible for assisting with the maintenance of park equipment, facilities and grounds at W&OD Railroad Regional Park.  This position is part-time, up to 40 hours per week, with health benefits offered. 

Pay Rate:  $20.00 per hour


Major Duties/Specific Tasks

  • Mow grass using a variety of equipment that may include push mowers, tractors, bush hogs, boom mowers and/or specialized equipment.
  • Perform various landscape maintenance including weeding, mulching, edging, raking, and watering planted areas as needed.
  • Plant trees, shrubs, and flowers in designated areas.
  • Prune and trim plants as needed; clear brush; cut dead and/or damaged trees and saw logs and limbs using chain saw.
  • Collect and dispose of trash and litter.
  • Maintain cleanliness of trails by removing trash, debris and rocks.
  • Operate small engine equipment such as backpack blowers and line trimmers.
  • Perform facility maintenance such as repairing picnic tables, repairing boat motors, applying paint/stain, installing and repairing fences, and preparing for special events.
  • Conduct routine maintenance/repair of equipment to include changing oil, oil filters, replacing worn blades on mowers, replace string on line trimmers, sharpen or replace worn chain saw chains, assist with winterization of equipment.
  • Operate park vehicles.
  • Clean and organize maintenance shop areas.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Minimum of three years experience in park maintenance work using such equipment as tractors, mowers, chain saws, brush chippers, or any equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with the public and staff members.
  • Considerable knowledge of safe operation of equipment with ability to train others in equipment operation.
  • Mechanical aptitude with ability to make repairs on equipment.
  • Strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks, including lifting, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • Ability to supervise other maintenance workers.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Certification or ability to obtain certification for CPR and first aid.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain valid driver’s license, must maintain safe driving record.
  • Required to purchase and wear standard uniform.
