What is a motion analysis?

A Motion Analysis job involves studying and evaluating movement patterns using specialized tools and software. Professionals in this field work in industries such as sports science, biomechanics, healthcare, and animation to assess and improve motion efficiency. They use motion capture systems, high-speed cameras, and computer modeling to analyze human or object movement. The insights gained help enhance athletic performance, rehabilitate injuries, or improve visual effects in media and gaming.

What does a motion analysis do?

A typical day in Motion Analysis often involves setting up and calibrating motion capture equipment, preparing subjects for data collection, recording movement sessions, and analyzing captured data using specialized software. You may also collaborate closely with biomechanists, physical therapists, coaches, or engineers to interpret results and provide actionable insights. Detailed documentation and clear reporting are key parts of the workflow to ensure accuracy and usefulness of findings. Depending on your employer, you might also participate in research projects, present data findings, or contribute to technological improvements in motion analysis protocols.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the motion analysis position, and why are they important?

To thrive in Motion Analysis, you need a solid background in biomechanics, kinesiology, or a related field, often supported by a degree in these areas. Familiarity with motion capture systems, video analysis software (such as Vicon, Qualisys, or Dartfish), and data processing tools is typically required. Excellent attention to detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help professionals excel in collaborative and research-oriented environments. These competencies are essential for accurately capturing, analyzing, and interpreting human or animal movement to inform improvements in clinical, sports, or research settings.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop video content across multiple channels, including on-site, organic and paid social, events, and more, to support marketing goals such as brand awareness, product education, and lead generation.
  • Manage your content project pipeline from start to finish, designing, tracking, and producing static and motion video deliverables, often in collaboration with cross-functional partners.
  • Think critically about creative and implementation challenges, balancing strategy and execution while efficiently and collaboratively guiding non-technical contributors through the video production process.
  • Collaborate with content writers, salespeople, systems analysts, and other cross-functional stakeholders across a variety of projects.

Must-Have:

  • Demonstrable experience in video animation and editing, supported by a portfolio showcasing the quality and range of your work.
  • At least 1+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in visual design, particularly across UX/UI, product, and marketing, including motion graphics and micro-interactions.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and synthesize creative ideas, processes, and outcomes, including determining when to use static assets, stock footage, b-roll, or animation, and balancing team feedback and revisions against project deadlines.
  • Expertise in digital media technology and editing software, including file formats, codecs, and color spaces, and proficiency with Figma and Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Illustrator.
  • Experience independently leading projects, managing deadlines, and contributing to shared team goals.

Nice to Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Digital Media, Communications, Film, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A startup mindset that combines self-motivation and grit with the courage to experiment, follow through on new ideas, and recognize when to push creative boundaries versus use proven approaches.
  • Knowledge of a 3D software package such as Blender, Cinema 4D, Maya, or Maxon.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of industry design standards and trends.

Compensation and Perks:

  • Healthcare, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, FSA, HSA Matching, 401K Matching, and Commuter Benefits
  • PTO (Paid-time-off), paid sick days, and paid holidays
  • Employee Assistance Program; 3 X 1-hour telehealth calls with certified mental health professionals
  • $100 towards a work-from-home office setup
  • Evolve in a nice working atmosphere with a passionate, growing team!
  • Chef-prepared lunches - snacks, fruit, and coffee/drinks on tap!
  • Company-sponsored events for groups of 6+ employees

The salary range for this role is $80,000-$100,000. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location.
