Job summary

As a cashier at Atticus Market, you will be responsible for all day to day tasks associated with this position (listed below) in addition to ensuring that takeout operations are consistent with our culture, and high quality costumer service. You will be responsible for product knowledge relating to but not limited to: baked goods, food, coffee, and retail items. The most important role you will play is being the first point of contact with the customer. You will be a representation of Atticus. In this role you must show kindness, smile, and help customers when they need it. The cashier assists their co-workers and management where they are needed while maintaining an accurate account of their assigned register sales, and providing outstanding customer service. The cashier is expected to perform the duel roles of takeout barista/cashier, and guest greeter.

Requirements for the position

The cashier is expected to work 70% of their shift working the takeout counter, 10% of their shift assisting co-workers, 10% greeting & seating guests, and 10% cleaning & restocking. This position requires physical activity, a sense of urgency, and the ability to perform multiple duties within the caf. Our locations are open daily, which requires morning, evening, weekend, and holiday availability.

Essential functions

  • Greet customer, provide them with item information and direct them to the items location in the store
  • -deliver informative feedback to shift supervisor and management to ensure high quality food and service, caf safety, maintenance, and sanitation
  • -uphold the core service principles of the caf, and provide timely friendly service
  • Assist in maintaining inventory by notifying managers of low inventory in cases and aisles
  • Remove all expired items according to company policy and place in designated location to be wasted in inventory
  • Perform stocking duties such as lifting, rotating products, dusting, and facing
  • Process customer orders: scan, bag, and provide receipt
  • Build a strong knowledge of the POS system knowing where non-bar code items are located to expedite faster scanning
  • Product Knowledge learn and stay current with products sold and made by Atticus including beverages, bread, pastry, beer, wine, and retail grocery items
  • Complete cleanliness and maintenance duties around the store
  • Be aware of daily price changes and manage cash register as required
  • assist with the smooth acclimation of new employees into the store and culture of Atticus
  • Know how to make all basic Atticus beverages from the espresso bar following completion of training
  • -comply at all times with the standards, policies, and code of conduct & ethics set up by Atticus bookstore/caf
  • -perform end of shift duties as prescribed by the shift supervisor

Grocery Clerk skills and qualifications

  • Ability to work fast, but in an efficient and controlled manor
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills towards customers and store staff
  • Ability to operate as a team member and get along with others
  • Be vigilant of customer activity in the store to prevent theft
  • Ability to accept supervisory training related to performance, attitude, and work habits
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical duties such as lifting, walking, and standing for long periods
  • Excellent organizational and cleaning skills
  • Ability to exercise patients with customers
