Job description

School Nurse
Full time position providing medical care as a health room sub and extra help as needed, bus route nurse, field trips and nursing program support. Must be flexible with hours and willing to cover all of the Shelby County School district. Based out of Chelsea Middle School/Nursing Services Offices.
Qualifications:
  • Hold a current Alabama License for Associate Degree in nursing (ADN), Bachelor's Degree in nursing (BSN), or Practical Nursing (LPN).
  • Clinical nursing experience with school age children in the hospital, community health or pediatric clinic desired.
  • Clinical nursing skills necessary to provide safe care to students with special health care needs.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with administration, nursing supervisor, faculty, parents and students.
  • Ability to demonstrate complete, accurate and timely documentation of health services rendered.
  • Possess current CPR certification.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.

Reports to: Principal, Student Services Coordinator, Nurse Supervisor
Job Goal: Provision of school health services to students and serve as a liaison between the school, the medical community and other agencies involved in the health and welfare of students.
Terms of Employment: Nine month contract (187 days).
