What is a Montessori guide?

Montessori Guides are educators trained in the Montessori method, a child-centered educational approach developed by Dr. Maria Montessori. Rather than traditional teaching, Guides facilitate learning by preparing a thoughtfully designed environment and observing children's interests and needs. They support children in choosing their own activities, fostering independence, curiosity, and a love of learning. Montessori Guides act as mentors and role models, helping children develop academically, socially, and emotionally at their own pace.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Montessori guide?

To thrive as a Montessori Guide, you need a deep understanding of child development, experience in educational settings, and completion of accredited Montessori training or certification. Familiarity with Montessori materials, lesson planning, and classroom management systems is typically required. Patience, keen observation, and strong communication skills help foster a nurturing, student-centered environment. These attributes are crucial for supporting independent learning and holistic growth in children according to Montessori principles.

How does a Montessori guide collaborate with parents and other educators to support a child's development?

A Montessori Guide works closely with parents and fellow educators to create a consistent, supportive environment for each child. This collaboration typically includes regular parent-teacher conferences, sharing observations, and providing guidance on how to reinforce Montessori principles at home. Guides also participate in team meetings with other educators to discuss student progress and coordinate individualized learning plans. Open communication and shared goals are key to ensuring each child’s unique needs are met both in and out of the classroom.

What is the difference between Montessori Guide vs Montessori Teacher?

Understanding these distinctions helps in choosing the right career path within Montessori education.

How long does it take to become a Montessori Guide?

Becoming a Montessori Guide typically requires completing a recognized Montessori training program, which can take from six months to two years depending on the level of certification and program format. Candidates often need to have a high school diploma or equivalent and may pursue additional coursework in child development or education to enhance their qualifications.

Job description

Do work that matters! Every single day. We are hiring  Assistant Guides for our lovely Guidepost Montessori school at Spruce Tree!

At Guidepost Montessori, our Assistant Guides play a meaningful role in helping children ages 0-6 develop independence, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.

If you're passionate about working with young children and want to grow in a supportive, purpose-driven environment, we'd love to meet you.

Your Impact

As an Assistant Guide, you'll support a mixed-age Montessori classroom (Infant, Toddler, and Children's House ages 3-6), helping create a calm, engaging environment where children are empowered to explore, learn, and grow at their own pace.

In a Montessori classroom, the environment and the guide work together to support each child's development. You'll assist in preparing beautiful, intentional learning spaces and support children through individualized and small-group activities-always with respect, patience, and care.

Most importantly, you'll help children build confidence in themselves and discover what they're capable of achieving.

What You'll Do

  • Observe children closely to understand and support their individual needs
  • Help prepare and maintain a beautiful, orderly classroom environment
  • Support individual and small-group learning activities
  • Build warm, respectful relationships with children and families
  • Collaborate with Lead Guides and fellow team members to create a strong classroom community

What We're Looking For

  • Experience working with children ages 3-6 in a school or childcare setting
  • A positive, adaptable, and collaborative mindset
  • A genuine love for working with young children
  • Interest in learning and growing within the Montessori approach (prior Montessori experience is welcome but not required)

What We Offer

  • Fully sponsored Montessori diploma training through the Prepared Montessorian Institute
  • Ongoing professional development and mentorship
  • 75% tuition discount for up to two children at any Guidepost school
  • Competitive pay
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • Abundant opportunities for growth and career advancement
  • A supportive network of peers who value collaboration and shared best practices
