Job Description:
Job Function:
This is an hourly, seasonal position within the Public Safety Department at Monroe Community College responsible for protection of life and property, prevention of crime or violations of the College Code of Conduct, and identification of offenders. The employee works under the general supervision of the Chief of Public Safety and reports directly to a Campus Peace Officer Supervisor. This position is assigned to the Residence Halls.
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Patrols an assigned area at Monroe Community College locations to ensure the safety of persons and property.
  • Assumes duty at an assigned post; investigates complaints and disturbances and may assist in apprehending violators at the direction of campus peace officers.
  • Perform special assignments as required.
  • Testifies in court as necessary.
  • Maintains Residence Hall policies including checking bags, instructing visitors, maintaining order and reporting violations to Public Safety.

Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
  • Must meet the following minimum qualifications for the Monroe County Civil Service title of (NC) Part-time Guard: A) Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus one year of paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in an occupation involved with the enforcement of peace and order such as guard, police officer, forest ranger, armored vehicle guard; OR B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State two year college or university with an Associate's degree in Criminal Justice or Police Science; OR,C) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of A) and B).
  • Must have current New York State Security Guard License or be eligible for exemption of such license as determined by the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services
  • As per department policy employees of the Public Safety Department will be subject to a background check. Offer of hire will be contingent on the results of this process.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently

Additional Information:
Job Type: Part Time, Temporary
Hours/Shift: Thursday, Friday, Saturday 11:00 pm - 4:00 am
6-20 hours weekly while College is in session. Employee will not work during College breaks, holidays or summer months.
Must be available to work weekends.
Salary: $20.00/hr
