Catholic Diocese of Memphis Position Summary

Incarnation Catholic Church Preschool is seeking a joyful, nurturing, and faith-filled Part-Time Teaching AssistantĀ to support our Four-Year-Old Preschool classroom. The ideal candidate is passionate about early childhood education, enjoys working as part of a collaborative teaching team, and is committed to fostering the spiritual, social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of young children in a Catholic learning environment. This position is part-time, working Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, welcoming, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
  • Support the implementation of daily lesson plans and engaging learning activities that encourage kindergarten readiness.
  • Foster children's spiritual growth by modeling Catholic values through kindness, respect, compassion, and service.
  • Supervise children during classroom activities, outdoor play, lunch, rest time, and transitions.
  • Encourage positive social interactions, cooperation, and problem-solving among students.
  • Assist with small-group and individualized instruction as directed by the Lead Teacher.
  • Help prepare classroom materials, learning centers, and instructional resources.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting classroom.
  • Observe and communicate student progress and concerns with the Lead Teacher.
  • Support classroom routines while reinforcing positive behavior and age-appropriate expectations.
  • Follow all preschool, diocesan, licensing, and Safe Environment policies and procedures.
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, staff, and parish members.

Requirements

Ā Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience working with preschool-aged children is preferred.
  • Coursework or experience in Early Childhood Education is a plus.
  • Demonstrates patience, flexibility, creativity, and a genuine love for young children.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Must successfully complete all required background screening and Safe Environment training through the Catholic Diocese of Memphis.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to sit on the floor, bend, kneel, stoop, and actively engage with young children throughout the day.
  • Ability to supervise children indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
