GFT is seeking a Team Leader/Sr Project Manager - Roadway Engineering to join our Transportation Team in Omaha, NE! This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Omaha, NE office.

What you'll be challenged to do:

GFT is seeking an emerging or established engineering leader with experience in roadway engineering and project management. This role has opportunity to grow from a technical focus into management and business-related functions. This role will be responsible for the design and preparation of plan submittals related to highway and arterial roadway design, complex intersection design, local roadways, site design, bridge replacement/rehabilitation, traffic design, drainage design for NDOT, MoDOT, KDOT and Iowa DOT and other various DOTs and municipal agencies.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following: 

  • Project Management
    • Perform project management and engineering tasks related to the planning and design of transportation facilities such as freeways, arterials, intersections, railroad and drainage. Be part of a Design Team that produces plans, specifications, cost estimates and schedules for transportation construction projects. Duties include oversight and preparation of engineering reports, engineering calculations and analysis and furnishing technical documentation for design projects. Work tasks generally pertain to planning and design functions for highways, arterials, traffic, drainage and site design. Attendance at meetings and interaction with clients should be expected. Effective written and oral communication skills are imperative.

    • Oversees project delivery by providing direction and oversight to project team members for the completion of technical efforts including roadway, traffic, drainage and site design projects and reports.

    • Answer any questions and reviews shop drawings during the construction phase of the project.

  • Oversee Team Members
    • Support and develop team members

    • Schedule regular status meetings / in-person meetings with team members

    • Develop/Manage labor projections for the team

    • Facilitate resourcing for the team

    • Review/Oversee project budgets

    • QA/QC – Work with team members to ensure quality expectations are being met.

    • Develop contingency and team member transitions plans, identify successors and provide mentorship. 

    • Communicate timely and effectively with their Division Leader, Area Business Manager and other Leaders within the Area.

  • Employee Management
    • Ensure focus on creating a work environment that retains top talent, creates development opportunities for employees, communicates performance concerns, mentors, supports positive morale, and strategically acquires new talent.

  • Financial Responsibilities
    • Lead the project management of projects both technically and financially to meet the clients’ expectations in completing quality projects on-time and on budget.

    • Work with team members on project performance.

    • Work with Business Manager for PM meetings. Review At-Risk projects.

    • Manage / optimize utilization – review / discuss and resolve any utilization issues with team members

  • Business Development
    • Develop/Maintain Client relationships

    • Proposals / RFQ’s – Go/No Go. 

    • Client Service Team Meetings – Provide input and support where needed

  • Coordination with others
    • Work with Division Leader to ensure optimal utilization / workload by sharing work as necessary across multiple teams


What you will bring to our firm: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in the Civil engineering field required.
  • Minimum of 15 years' professional roadway engineering experience.
  • Experience leading a team. 
  • Registered as a licensed Professional Engineer (PE), preferably in Nebraska or Iowa.
  • Professional experience in design and preparation of plan submittals related to highway and arterial roadway design, complex intersection design, local roadways, site design, bridge replacement/rehabilitation, traffic design, drainage design for NDOT, MoDOT, KDOT and Iowa DOT and other various DOTs and municipal agencies.
  • Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, and various engineering software systems depending on engineering discipline: MicroStation/GeoPak; OpenRoads, Land Desktop, or AutoCAD/ Civil 3D.

  • A minimum of 10 years design experience. 
  • Experience with NDOT and IaDOT design build.
Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $140,000 - $185,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
