How much do modem jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 23, 2026, the average hourly pay for modem in Washington is $71.18, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $53.37 and $97.45 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are modems and what do they do?

A modem, short for modulator-demodulator, is a hardware device that connects a computer or router to an internet service provider (ISP) over a telephone line, cable system, or other communication medium. Modems convert digital data from a computer into analog signals for transmission and then reconvert incoming analog signals back into digital data. They play a vital role in enabling internet connectivity in homes and businesses by managing the data transmission between your local network and your ISP. Modern modems typically support high-speed broadband connections and may be integrated with routers for wireless networking.

What is a Modem job?

A Modem job typically involves developing, testing, and optimizing modem hardware and firmware for wireless communication. Engineers in this role work on signal processing, network protocols, and performance tuning for technologies like 4G, 5G, and Wi-Fi. They collaborate with software and hardware teams to ensure seamless connectivity and efficient data transmission. Strong knowledge of telecommunications, embedded systems, and programming languages like C/C++ is often required.

What is the difference between Modem vs Network Technician?

AspectModemNetwork Technician
Required CredentialsBasic technical knowledge, certifications like CompTIA A+ often preferredNetworking certifications such as Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Network+
Work EnvironmentCustomer homes, service provider facilitiesOffices, data centers, client sites
Industry UsageTelecommunications, internet service providersIT, networking, telecommunications
Common Search/ComparisonYesYes

While both roles involve working with network equipment, a Modem primarily focuses on installing and troubleshooting modems for internet access, whereas a Network Technician handles broader network infrastructure, including routers, switches, and network configurations. Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right career path or service provider for your networking needs.

Why is Gen Z struggling to get jobs?

Gen Z faces challenges in securing jobs due to high competition, limited work experience, and evolving skill requirements such as digital literacy. Entry-level positions, including roles like modem technician, often require specific technical skills and certifications, which can be barriers for new job seekers.

What jobs pay $500,000 a year in the US?

High-paying jobs that can reach or exceed $500,000 annually include executive roles such as CEOs, CFOs, and other C-suite positions, as well as successful entrepreneurs, top-tier investment bankers, and certain specialized medical professionals like neurosurgeons. These roles typically require extensive experience, advanced skills, and often involve significant responsibility or ownership stakes.

What are some common challenges faced by Modem Engineers, and how can they be addressed?

Modem Engineers often encounter challenges such as optimizing data throughput, ensuring compatibility with multiple network standards, and troubleshooting complex connectivity issues. Staying up-to-date with rapidly evolving wireless technologies and protocols is essential. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, such as hardware engineers and software developers, can help address these challenges by enabling effective problem-solving and knowledge sharing. Continuous learning and leveraging industry-standard testing tools can also make a significant difference in managing these technical complexities.

What engineers make $500,000?

Highly experienced engineers in specialized fields such as software engineering, data science, or engineering management can earn $500,000 or more annually, often through a combination of base salary, bonuses, and stock options. These roles typically require advanced skills, extensive experience, and work in high-demand industries or companies with competitive compensation packages.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

A modem is a device used for internet connectivity and is not a job. For jobs that can pay $10,000 a month without a degree, roles such as sales managers, real estate brokers, or skilled trades like electricians and plumbers can reach that income level with experience and strong performance. High commissions, entrepreneurship, or specialized skills often contribute to earning this level of income without formal higher education.
