To thrive as a Model Validation professional, you need strong quantitative, statistical, and analytical skills, often supported by a degree in mathematics, statistics, finance, or a related field. Proficiency with programming languages such as Python or R, statistical modeling software, and familiarity with regulatory guidelines like SR 11-7 or CCAR is essential. Outstanding attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and clear communication are valuable soft skills in this role. These competencies are crucial for rigorously assessing complex models, documenting findings, and collaborating effectively with model developers and risk management teams.

What is a Model Validation job?

A Model Validation job involves assessing and verifying the accuracy, reliability, and performance of mathematical and statistical models used in finance, risk management, or other industries. Professionals in this role conduct independent testing, evaluate assumptions, and ensure models comply with regulatory and internal standards. They identify weaknesses, suggest improvements, and help mitigate potential risks associated with model usage. Model validators often work with machine learning models, credit risk models, or trading algorithms, depending on the industry.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in Model Validation roles?

One common challenge in Model Validation is staying up-to-date with evolving regulatory requirements and industry best practices, which can impact how models should be tested and documented. Model validators often work with highly complex financial or risk models, requiring strong analytical skills to assess underlying assumptions and potential risks. Additionally, balancing the need for thoroughness with tight deadlines and collaborating with model developers to address issues can be demanding. However, overcoming these challenges offers valuable opportunities to build expertise, work cross-functionally, and play a critical role in ensuring the integrity and reliability of key business decisions.

At Leidos, we deliver innovative solutions through the dedication of our diverse and talented teams. We empower our people, support our communities, and operate with integrity and sustainability. Guided by our Mission, Vision, and Values, we are committed to doing what's right-for our customers, our employees, and the world around us.
Your greatest work is ahead.
Leidos Defense Sector is seeking a Systems Engineering Modeler to support the Ground-Based Radar (GBR) Digitization Program, a major modernization initiative enhancing the nation's missile warning, missile defense, and space domain awareness capabilities.
Program Overview
In this role, you will support the modernization of legacy radar systems across eight Ground-Based Radar sites. These systems provide continuous surveillance, detection, tracking, and reporting of missile and satellite activity in support of Missile Warning (MW), Missile Defense (MD), and Space Domain Awareness (SDA) missions.
The GBR Digitization Program is implementing a common digital backend architecture and modernizing radar front-end systems to maximize standardization, improve maintainability, and enhance mission readiness across the enterprise.
What You'll Do
  • Model-Based Systems Engineering - Design, create, and maintain complex digital system models using SysML or UML to represent system architectures, requirements, behaviors, and interfaces.
  • Architecture & Interface Modeling - Develop detailed architecture, behavior, and process models for radar back-end systems, algorithms, hardware, and software. Work in CAMEO Enterprise Architect for model data, management, branching, versioning, audits, and digital processes.
  • Model-Based ICD Development - Author and maintain model-based Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and mapping frameworks to ensure interoperability across system components.
  • Executable Models & Validation - Build executable models and automated validation suites to test system constraints and performance prior to physical prototyping.
  • Scenario Thread Development - Support development of mission and operational scenario threads to inform system design and performance requirements.
  • Digital Engineering Integration - Apply MBSE and Digital Engineering best practices to define the to-be system design, including mission, cyber, interoperability, and environmental requirements.
  • Lifecycle Engineering Support - Contribute to system baseline development across the program's three-phase contract: requirements definition, baseline establishment, and deployment of the modernized solution.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 8+ years of relevant experience (additional experience, training, or certifications may substitute for degree).
  • US Citizen; Currently possesses an Active Secret Clearance.
  • Demonstrated experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Digital Engineering, Cameo, scenario thread development, system integration, configuration management, cybersecurity, test support, and CI/CD.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related field with 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • Professional certifications such as DoD IAT Level II (e.g., Security+).
  • Experience supporting DoD, MDA, U.S. Space Force, Air Force, or Intelligence Community programs.
  • Experience with Integrated Tactical Warning / Attack Assessment (ITW/AA) systems or radar systems.
  • Experience with missile and space on-orbit events, cybersecurity, classified networks, cloud solutions, operational acceptance governance, and system lifecycle management.
