Director, Card Risk Management

As a Director in Capital One's Card Risk organization, you will apply your leadership and analytical skills to our highest profile Risk Management projects. You will lead a team of Vertical Risk Managers and Risk Specialists while acting as a thought leader working across the enterprise to develop and implement cutting edge Risk solutions to ensure Capital One's continued stability and success. Directors in Capital One's Risk Management organization partner with Executives and lines of business to drive organizational change in order to better manage the Company's Risk in an open, collaborative environment where new ideas and solutions are both welcomed and rewarded.

Risk Directors at Capital One work with their team and business partners to identify and mitigate potential risks. In this role, you will support the risk management of our Customer Resiliency (CR) organization. Customer Resiliency is a key business area within the US Card division at Capital One that works with customers who are experiencing financial difficulties. Our team will support CR as they continue their transformational journey to build affordable solutions that enable customers to resolve and rebuild credit, create multi-channel experiences that are easy and rewarding and get the right solution.


Qualified candidates are highly motivated Risk Management professionals with excellent organizational, leadership and communication skills. They have a high level of exposure across lines of business and the opportunity to work with Executives to create and implement innovative solutions to identify and mitigate potential risks to the Company.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with business partners to validate risk processes impacting the company's bottom line

  • Consult with Executives to determine interaction model with Lines of Business to create positive relationships

  • Drive finalization of risk category and subcategory framework

  • Perform critical assessments on risk categories to mitigate risk to the company

  • Perform extensive gap assessments and create recommendations to ensure smart business decisions

  • Use analytical skills to conduct Risk Process Improvement, Process Design & Process Excellence

  • Large scale Process Management/Governance

  • Work with dynamic teams on Departmental Process Management & Execution


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Military experience

  • At least 7 years of experience working in risk management or financial services

  • At least 5 years of program management experience

  • At least 5 years of experience supporting, partnering and interacting with internal business clients

  • At least 5 years of people management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree

  • 7+ years of Financial Services risk management experience

  • 7+ years of experience in Project or Process Management

  • 5+ years of internal strategy or management consulting experience leading cross functional financial services projects and programs

  • 7+ years of people management experience

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $206,000 - $235,100 for Director, Risk Management


Richmond, VA: $187,300 - $213,700 for Director, Risk Management










Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
