What are mochi jobs?

Mochi Jobs typically refer to positions involved in the making, selling, or distributing mochi, a traditional Japanese rice cake made from glutinous rice. These jobs can range from mochi chefs and kitchen staff in bakeries or restaurants, to production workers in food manufacturing facilities, to sales associates in stores that sell mochi. Employees may be responsible for preparing mochi, ensuring quality, packaging, and providing customer service. Working in mochi-related jobs often requires attention to detail, knowledge of food safety, and sometimes experience in Japanese cuisine. The work environment can be fast-paced, especially during peak seasons like holidays.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in mochi production and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in mochi production often encounter challenges such as maintaining product consistency, managing allergens like gluten or nuts, and handling the unique texture of mochi dough. Maintaining quality while scaling up production can also be difficult, as mochi is sensitive to temperature and moisture changes. Addressing these challenges typically involves rigorous quality control, careful ingredient sourcing, and regular training to ensure all team members are familiar with safety and handling procedures. Collaboration with food safety experts and adopting advanced machinery can further enhance efficiency and product quality.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a mochi chef, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Mochi Chef, you need expertise in pastry or dessert preparation, knowledge of traditional Japanese ingredients, and often a culinary arts qualification. Familiarity with tools like dough mixers, steamers, and specialized mochi-making equipment is typically required. Attention to detail, creativity, and strong time management skills are valuable soft skills for excelling in this role. These abilities ensure the consistent production of high-quality mochi, innovation in flavors and presentation, and the smooth operation of a dessert kitchen.

Senior Brand Designer

Job description

$150,000 - $200,000
Full-time / Onsite (5 days/week)

About the Role

Join Mochi Health as Senior Brand Designer and help us build a brand identity that makes healthcare feel approachable, trustworthy, and human. You'll work closely with our design and growth teams to shape how Mochi shows up everywhere - from packaging and advertising to the overall visual identity - bringing high craft and a sharp point of view to every touchpoint. This role is perfect for someone who is passionate about design, eager to learn, and excited to contribute to a mission-driven company. This role reports to the Head of Design.

You'll work with us on
  • Brand direction, strategy, and architecture - defining how the brand looks, feels, and flexes across every touchpoint
  • Translating brand strategy into a coherent, distinctive visual system (identity, guidelines, and asset libraries)
  • Partnering with marketing, product, and leadership to ensure the brand shows up consistently and with intention everywhere it appears
You'll flourish in this role if you
  • Have strong visual design chops across packaging, advertising, and visual identity - not just one lane
  • Think in systems: typography, color, layout, and imagery that all reinforce a single brand idea
  • Can move fluidly between strategic thinking ("what should this brand stand for") and hands-on execution ("what should this actually look like")
  • Have an eye for detail and craft that holds up under scrutiny - nothing feels templated or default
Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience in brand design
  • High proficiency in design tools; Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.
  • A portfolio demonstrating high-craft, brand and visual design work
  • Experience owning or contributing meaningfully to brand identity systems, not just individual assets
Ideal Experience
  • 3D design experience (packaging mockups, product renders, or brand-related 3D assets)
  • Experience building or evolving brand guidelines/design systems used across a growing team
  • Background at a brand or creative agency, or in-house at a brand-forward company
