National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) is the nation's oldest and largest national parks nonprofit advocacy organization. NPCA has an exciting opportunity for a Director, Digital Mobilization on our Communications team.
Position Title: Director, Digital Mobilization

Manager's Supervisor: Amy Hagovsky, Senior Vice President, Communications

Salary: $97k-$116k (Based on experience)
Primary Purpose of the Role:
The Director of Digital Mobilization will lead NPCA's social media, online advocacy and podcasting, driving strategic innovation in reaching and mobilizing a nationwide community of national park advocates. As a key leader in the communications department, they will help support a culture of excellence and push the envelope in developing creative digital solutions. The Director will directly supervise a small team responsible for social media, video podcasting and online advocacy, setting strategy and vision while advancing campaign and brand goals. This position will be responsible for continuously assessing external and internal drivers of change for NPCA's digital outreach, as well as identifying industry trends, market pressures, political shifts and policy outcomes, and lead the team in adapting to change.
Essential Functions of the Position (% of Time):
  • Develop the vision and lead execution for a new NPCA video-based podcast that will inform and inspire park lovers. Creatively integrate the podcast into ongoing and overarching digital strategies to build new audiences and advance policy objectives. (40%)
  • Lead social media engagement for NPCA's advocacy and policy campaigns. Establish creative vision and strategy to reach, empower and mobilize NPCA members and supporters through social media across all major platforms. (15%)
  • Develop strategies and lead online advocacy efforts in activating existing audiences and reaching new audiences to expand NPCA's online reach and advocate base. Drive and develop creative solutions for expanding the organization's online community. Bring a special focus on engaging audiences not traditionally engaged in conservation or environmental advocacy. (10%)
  • Support Deputy Vice President in ensuring that digital mobilization efforts coordinate with and complement traditional media outreach. Collaborate with other members of the Media & Outreach team, as well as the broader Communications Department and other departments across the organization. Ensure digital engagement activations within communications campaigns are strategically planned and executed. (5%)
  • Supervise team responsible for (30%):

-Online advocacy via email, SMS and related toolsets
-Social media across mainstream platforms
-Video podcast and shortform video production

Minimum Work Schedule: 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday - Thursday (32-hour work week)
Minimum Scope of Position: Lead NPCA's digital engagement and mobilization team, providing strategic guidance and direction for social media, email advocacy and video podcasting. Supervise up to four direct reports from Manager to Associate Director level.
Minimum Qualifications, Competencies, Skills, Education, and Traits:
  • Minimum of 6-7 years of experience in online communications, including advocacy and policy communications, or related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in video production, podcast production and social media outreach. Experience and knowledge of online advocacy best practices preferred.
  • Baccalaureate degree or equivalent work experience. Coursework or emphasis on communication, media, political science, or environmental studies preferred but not required.
  • Experience in productive, positive staff management, including managing dispersed teams.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to work under time constraints, meet deadlines, organize tasks, and maintain a good rapport with staff and suppliers.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce several creative solutions to a problem.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
