Job description

Position Summary:ย Drives bus to safely transport students over specified routes to local or distant points according to established transportation schedule. This position will work approximately 30 hours/week, Monday through Friday with opportunity for additional hours via afternoon and evening field trips.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists students embarking and disembarking vehicle and be able to safely evacuate students during an emergency
  • Regulates heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort
  • Complies with local traffic regulations
  • Maintains constant radio contact and reports delays or accidents
  • Reports break downs, including flat-tires, and requests assistance or replacement bus
  • Inspects bus and checks gas, oil, water and litter before departure
  • Inspects bus for damage to interior (seats, etc.) and exterior (dents, broken lights, etc.)
  • May transport students on field trips or athletic events

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or general education diploma (GED) is required
  • Able to communicate effectively with all school constituents
  • Must be at least 25 years old and have at least 1-year successful driving experience as school bus driver
  • Must have a clean driving record and pass Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to add and subtract simple numbers; Ability to transfer simple numbers legibly to transportation logs
  • Must have or be eligible to obtain a valid, current Florida CDL license C or D within reasonable period from date of hire; class B license with a P & S endorsement is required
  • Must have use of both hands, both feet, be able to sit for long periods of time, have eye-to-hand coordination
  • The employee will be required to pass Dept. of Transportation (DOT) physical; employee must be able to pass the physical mobility test and emergency evacuation test and will be required to submit to testing periodically
  • Requires successful completion of a pre-employment background check and drug screenย
