Position Title: Land Mobile Radio (LMR) Technician
Location: Fort Knox, KY
Clearance Type: SECRET
Compensation: $35.41/hr.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Serves as the Land Mobile Radio (LMR) on-site technician providing daily customer service, troubleshooting, and programming for all LMR infrastructure and subscriber equipment.
Install, configure, and maintain LMR systems and components, including RF repeaters, antennas, cabling, and dispatch equipment.
Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting of analog and digital radio systems (e.g., P25, trunked/conventional).
Conduct preventative maintenance and routine system performance checks.
Program radios and update firmware/software as needed.
Interface with end-users to resolve technical issues and support operational needs.
Maintain detailed service records, logs, and technical documentation.
Ensure compliance with FCC regulations and site-specific technical requirements.
Collaborate with engineers, IT, and telecom staff on system upgrades or new deployments
Completes mobile installs, mobile removals, desktop installs, and desktop relocations.
Provides emergency response within two (2) hours.
Communicates reports to the government LMR Manager.
Coordinates with L3 Harris representatives for the performance of operation and maintenance actions and activities associated with an established external maintenance agreement.
Coordinates with the government LMR Manager for issuance and maintenance of cryptography keys and codes to support mission requirements.
Education and Certifications:
Knowledge and Experience:
Proficient in installation, repair, alignment, and maintenance of analog and digital trunked radio communications systems.
Hands-on experience with vendor systems (e.g., Motorola, L3 Harris, Tait, Kenwood, EF Johnson).
Proficient in software tools such as radio system programming applications, RF coverage analysis tools (e.g., ATDI, EDX SignalPro), and spectrum analyzers.
Experience with equipment involving microwave (M/W) radio, digital and analog multiplex equipment, receivers and transmitters, digital and analog receiver voting systems, timing/synchronization oscillator systems, simulcast control systems, computer control systems, Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) console switches, consoles, and mobile and portable radio equipment.
Experience with inventory control and record keeping by maintaining a database to track the allocated radios for the LMR system to include desktop base stations, vehicular mounted mobiles, and handheld radios using all manufacturer software necessary for any and all subscriber equipment operating on the L3HARRIS P25IP system.
