What is mobile radiography?

Mobile radiography is a specialized field of medical imaging where radiologic technologists use portable X-ray machines to perform diagnostic imaging outside of traditional radiology departments. This service is often provided at patients' bedsides in hospitals, nursing homes, or even in-home care settings, especially for those who are too ill or immobile to be transported. Mobile radiography helps ensure timely diagnosis and treatment by bringing essential imaging services directly to the patient, improving their comfort and safety. It requires technologists to adapt to various environments while maintaining high standards of image quality and patient care.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a mobile radiographer?

To thrive as a Mobile Radiographer, you need a solid background in radiologic technology, anatomy, and radiation safety, usually demonstrated by an associate’s or bachelor’s degree and ARRT certification. Familiarity with portable imaging equipment, digital radiography systems, and secure patient data management tools is crucial. Excellent communication, adaptability, and the ability to work independently in varied environments are standout soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure accurate imaging, patient comfort, and effective service delivery across diverse healthcare settings.

What are some of the unique challenges faced by mobile radiographers compared to those working in fixed hospital settings?

Mobile radiographers often work in varied environments, such as patients’ homes, nursing facilities, or remote locations, which can present challenges like limited space, variable lighting, and the need to transport and set up equipment safely. They must adapt to each new setting while maintaining high standards of patient care and image quality. Additionally, mobile radiographers frequently work independently, requiring strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare staff who may not be familiar with imaging procedures.

What is the difference between Mobile Radiography vs X-ray Technicians?

AspectMobile RadiographyX-ray Technicians
CertificationsARRT certification, state licensureARRT certification, state licensure
Work EnvironmentTraveling to patient locations, hospitals, clinicsHospitals, clinics, outpatient facilities
Job DutiesPerforming portable X-ray exams at various locationsPerforming X-ray exams primarily within healthcare facilities

Mobile Radiography and X-ray Technicians both require similar certifications and often work in healthcare settings. However, Mobile Radiography involves traveling to patient locations for portable imaging, while X-ray Technicians typically operate within hospitals or clinics. Mobile Radiography offers more mobility-focused roles, whereas X-ray Technicians work mainly indoors. Both roles are essential in diagnostic imaging and share similar certification requirements.

How to become a mobile radiographer?

To become a mobile radiographer, you typically need to complete an accredited radiologic technology program and obtain certification from a recognized body such as the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Licensing requirements vary by region but often include passing a certification exam and maintaining continuing education to stay current in the field. Experience with portable imaging equipment and good patient communication skills are also important.

Job description

Associate Veterinarian

CityVet Saratoga Springs | Saratoga Springs, Utah

Be part of something brand new.

CityVet Saratoga Springs is more than a new veterinary hospital-it's the beginning of CityVet's story in Utah. Led by Dr. Jon McCormick, a veterinarian with nearly three decades of experience, our Saratoga Springs team is growing quickly, and we're looking for an Associate Veterinarian who wants to build with us.

This is a unique opportunity to join a hybrid General Practice + Urgent Care hospital where no two days look exactly the same. We care for traditional GP appointments while also helping bridge the gap between primary care and the emergency room; giving pet families access to timely, thoughtful care when they need it most.

There's something special about joining a team at the beginning and having a hand in shaping what it becomes. That's exactly the opportunity waiting for you in Saratoga Springs! You'll have an opportunity to help shape workflows, develop the team, build relationships in the community, and influence what this hospital becomes.

A Role That Can Fit You

We're open to meeting veterinarians at all stages of their careers.

Maybe you're a new graduate looking for meaningful mentorship and a place where you can steadily build confidence and clinical skills. Or maybe you're an experienced veterinarian who loves appointments, client relationships and medicine but would prefer to scale back on surgery. Perhaps you enjoy urgent care and want to spend most of your time seeing same-day and walk-in cases.

There's room for all of that here.

The ideal candidate is comfortable getting involved, enjoys variety, and understands the energy and commitment that comes with helping build something from the ground up. We're looking for a teammate who is willing to contribute, collaborate and grow alongside the hospital.

Surgery and dentistry experience is preferred, and we'd love someone who is comfortable helping with weekend urgent care hours. But most importantly, we want someone who is excited about the opportunity, not someone who feels like they must fit into a predetermined box.

The Hospital

CityVet Saratoga Springs was designed to support both scheduled veterinary care and urgent care, with:

  • 4 exam rooms
  • A large treatment area with room to grow
  • Abaxis and Zoetis in-house diagnostics
  • Handheld digital dental radiography
  • Ultrasound
  • Therapeutic cold laser
  • 30-minute appointments
  • Same-day appointments and walk-in care

What Makes Saratoga Springs Different?

Dr. Jon McCormick.

As the hospital's Partner and Lead Veterinarian, Dr. McCormick brings extensive experience and a genuinely unique clinical perspective. In addition to traditional veterinary medicine, he has a passion for acupuncture, chiropractic care, laser therapy and integrative medicine. He is also developing a relationship with a local mobile surgeon to expand access to orthopedic procedures for the community.

You'll join a tight-knit team that is already developing a strong culture, one where people help each other, have fun together and are genuinely invested in figuring out how to make the hospital better.

The team is constantly looking at workflows, asking what could work better and finding ways to optimize as the practice grows. If you enjoy being part of that process rather than simply showing up and working your appointments, you'll fit right in.
