Job description

MalaceHR is seeking an experienced Facilities Technician to support the operation and maintenance of a large commercial life sciences facility. This is a hands-on, hybrid maintenance role responsible for performing a wide variety of building repairs, preventative maintenance, and equipment troubleshooting to ensure the facility remains safe, reliable, and operational.

The ideal candidate is a true "jack-of-all-trades" with strong welding skills, excellent troubleshooting abilities, and experience maintaining commercial building systems. This position supports a regulated vivarium environment with occasional exposure to K9, primate, and rodent research areas while following strict safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on building systems and facility equipment.
  • Complete general building repairs including carpentry, drywall, painting, flooring, doors, hardware, and other facility maintenance tasks.
  • Perform welding repairs and light fabrication on equipment, enclosures, and structural components.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment and building infrastructure.
  • Assist with maintenance of HVAC systems, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, motors, and associated mechanical equipment.
  • Respond to maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Conduct routine facility inspections to identify maintenance and safety concerns.
  • Maintain safe working conditions while following all site safety procedures and regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with facility personnel and contractors to complete maintenance projects.
  • Participate in the rotating on-call schedule to respond to facility emergencies.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of commercial or industrial maintenance experience.
  • Strong welding experience (MIG, TIG, Stick, or Arc); certifications are not required.
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical and building systems.
  • General maintenance experience across multiple trades.
  • Familiarity with:
    • Chillers
    • Boilers
    • Cooling towers
    • HVAC equipment
    • Pumps and motors
  • Knowledge of general safety procedures and maintenance best practices.
  • Comfortable working on ladders and at elevated heights.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with facility teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working in life sciences, pharmaceutical, laboratory, or vivarium environments.
  • Experience with commercial painting and finishing work.
  • Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Experience using mobile devices or tablets for maintenance documentation.
Work Environment
  • Work is performed throughout a large commercial facility, including regulated vivarium areas.
  • Occasional exposure to K9, primate, and rodent environments.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required. Employees currently wear N95 respirators and may transition to Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPRs), including for extended periods while working in vivarium spaces.
  • Position requires walking, climbing ladders, bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
