About URI: The University of Rhode Island enrolls approximately 17,000 students across its graduate and undergraduate programs and is the State's flagship public research university, as well as the land grant and sea grant university, for the state of Rhode Island. The main campus is located in the historic village of Kingston, and the Bay Campus is located in Narragansett. Both campuses are near major beaches in a beautiful coastal community. URI is just 30 minutes from Providence, RI and within easy reach of Newport, Boston, and New York City.
The Department of Psychology at the University of Rhode Island has embarked on a cluster hiring strategy in the domain of digital health broadly. We are inviting applications for 2 two tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor level. A tenured position at the Full Professor level is being recruited in a separate announcement. We seek scholars whose work leverages digital health technologies-including wearable devices (e.g., Fitbit), smartphone-based assessments, mobile health interventions (e.g., just-in-time adaptive interventions), Al-driven tools, and mobile sensing-to advance innovative approaches to assessment, prevention, and intervention. The Department of Psychology at the University of Rhode Island invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor level. We seek scholars whose work leverages digital health technologies-including wearable devices (e.g., Fitbit), smartphone-based assessments, mobile health interventions (e.g., just-in-time adaptive interventions), AI-driven tools, and mobile sensing-to advance innovative approaches to assessment, prevention, and intervention.
Successful applicants will have an established scholarly record that demonstrates the ability to develop and lead an independent research program supported by NIH or other extramural funding. The ideal candidates will contribute to the mission of the Behavioral Science and/or Clinical program areas by: 1) Conducting impactful digital health research that applies cutting-edge methodologies or develops novel computational and quantitative approaches aligned with and complementary to departmental strengths (e.g., substance use, health equity, community-engaged research, mental health, child health); 2) teaching quantitative methods and/or content courses that are essential to the undergraduate and graduate training, 3) incorporating justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) principles into their research, teaching, and service. It is anticipated that one position will be filled in the Behavioral Science program area and one in the Clinical Psychology program area. We are particularly interested in candidates with strong methodological expertise in areas such as statistical modeling, machine learning, intensive longitudinal data analysis, micro-randomized trial design, natural language processing, AI applications in digital health, and real-world data analysis. Successful candidates will leverage these approaches to develop and evaluate data-driven healthcare solutions.
The Department of Psychology houses among the largest undergraduate and graduate programs at the University, with over 1000 undergraduates and 60 graduate students. We offer both BA and BS Undergraduate degrees, doctoral tracks in Behavioral Science and an APA-accredited Clinical Psychology program, and a new masters-level program in Mental and Behavioral Health Counseling. Clinical training is supported by our Psychological Consultation Center (PCC) that serves both the university and the larger Rhode Island community. Qualifications
Required:

1. A PhD (or equivalent) in psychology or a closely related field or completion of the degree by September 1, 2027.
2. Demonstrated commitment to JEDI through research, teaching, and/or service activities.
3. Demonstrated success and/or evidence of promise in obtaining external funding that will support productive research in digital health technologies.
4. Demonstrated ability to publish research in major peer-reviewed journals closely aligned with the field, Department, and position in the area of digital health technologies.
5. Demonstrated ability in teaching and mentoring graduate and/or undergraduate students.
6. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.
7. Demonstrated proficiency in oral communication skills.
8. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
Preferred:
1. Research specialization that includes the application of cutting-edge methods or development of new computational and quantitative approaches in domains relevant to digital health.
2. Demonstrated ability to teach quantitative methods and/or content courses that are critical to the undergraduate and graduate training.
