Mobile Lighting information

What is mobile lighting?

Mobile lighting refers to portable lighting equipment that can be easily moved and used in various locations, commonly on construction sites, outdoor events, film sets, or emergency situations. These systems typically include light towers, portable LED lights, and battery-powered lamps designed to provide illumination where permanent lighting is unavailable or impractical. Mobile lighting plays a crucial role in ensuring safety, visibility, and productivity in temporary or remote environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a mobile lighting technician?

To thrive as a Mobile Lighting Technician, you need a solid understanding of lighting design, electrical systems, and safety protocols, generally supported by technical training or certification in lighting technology. Familiarity with lighting control consoles, DMX systems, and rigging equipment is typically required. Strong problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills help technicians adapt to dynamic event environments and collaborate with production teams. These skills are crucial for ensuring safe, efficient, and visually impactful lighting setups for events and productions.

What are some common challenges faced by mobile lighting technicians on set, and how can they be addressed?

Mobile lighting technicians often face challenges such as working in varied and sometimes unpredictable environments, tight schedules, and the need for rapid equipment setup and adjustments. Communication with directors, camera operators, and other crew members is key to ensuring that lighting meets creative requirements while adhering to safety protocols. Staying organized, being adaptable, and keeping up-to-date with the latest lighting technology can help technicians efficiently handle these challenges and contribute positively to the production.

What is the difference between Mobile Lighting vs Mobile Electrician?

Job description

Join us at BOXABL, the most exciting tech start-up on the planet, located in fabulous LAS VEGAS, Nevada. You'll receive a great salary and benefits package and work in an amazing hi-tech studio environment.ย At BOXABL, we value hard-working and dedicated individuals who thrive in fast-paced, ever-changing environments.ย If you're only interested in work-life balance, please don't apply. However, if you want to live a life with real purpose, work alongside a wildly talented group of professionals toย make a real difference, join us as we work to solve the national housing crisis.

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled AR Developer/Engineer to join our team and build immersive, customer-facing augmented reality experiences using Unity and Meta Quest 3 headsets. This role centers on taking engineering-grade 3D CAD models of our modules/floor plans and transforming them into polished, photorealistic AR walkthroughs โ€” applying finishes, colors, materials, and surface treatments so customers can experience true-to-life visualizations of spaces and products before they're built. You'll bridge the gap between raw CAD geometry and a compelling, real-time customer experience.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Import, clean, and optimize 3D CAD models (SolidWorks, STEP, IGES, etc.) for real-time rendering in Unity
  • Apply materials, textures, finishes, colors, and lighting to convert raw CAD geometry into photorealistic, customer-ready visual assets
  • Build and maintain immersive AR walkthroughs of floor plans and modules for Meta Quest 3, ensuring accurate scale, spatial mapping, and room/module placement
  • Optimize 3D assets and scenes for real-time performance on standalone VR/AR hardware (polygon reduction, texture compression, LOD management, draw call optimization)
  • Develop and maintain reusable Unity pipelines/tools to streamline CAD-to-AR asset conversion for new models and floor plan configurations
  • Implement interactive features (walkthrough navigation, finish/color swapping, module configuration options, measurement tools) to support customer-facing sales and design experiences
  • Collaborate with design engineers to ensure AR representations accurately reflect real CAD dimensions and specifications
  • Test and debug AR applications across Meta Quest 3 hardware, addressing tracking, performance, and usability issues
  • Stay current with Unity, Meta Quest SDK/OpenXR, and AR/VR industry developments to continually improve the toolset and experience
Experience and Education
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in computer science, Game Development, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • 3+ years of professional experience developing in Unity
  • Hands-on experience developing for Meta Quest using the Meta XR SDK / OpenXR
  • Experience importing and working with 3D CAD data (SolidWorks, STEP, IGES, or similar) and converting it into game-engine-ready assets
  • Strong skills in 3D texturing, material/shader creation (PBR workflows), and lighting to achieve photorealistic results in real-time engines
  • Proficiency with C# scripting in Unity
  • Experience optimizing 3D models and scenes for real-time performance on standalone/mobile VR hardware
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling/DCC tools (Blender, 3ds Max, Maya, or similar) for asset cleanup, retopology, and UV unwrapping
  • Understanding of spatial computing concepts: scale accuracy, room-scale tracking, passthrough/mixed reality, and spatial anchors
  • Strong portfolio or demo reel showcasing AR/VR work, ideally involving architectural, product, or CAD-based visualization
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated eye for visual polish and realism โ€” treats customer-facing output as a product, not just a technical exercise
  • Experience specifically with architectural, modular building, or floor plan visualization in AR/VR
  • Experience with Unity's URP/HDRP render pipelines for high-fidelity visuals on standalone headsets
  • Experience building configurator-style tools (letting customers swap finishes, colors, layouts in real time)
  • Familiarity with multiplayer/shared AR experiences (for guided customer walkthroughs or sales demos)
  • Experience with performance profiling tools (Unity Profiler, RenderDoc, Meta's OVR Metrics Tool)
