Job description

Position Overview:

This position involves system design, troubleshooting, programming, and installations of 2-way and wireless communications systems. The primary responsibilities include optimizing, maintaining, and repairing complex radio systems and 911 communications centers for customers.


Roles & Responsibilities:

* Provide positive and efficient customer support by diagnosing, troubleshooting, discussing, and resolving wireless communication equipment questions and problems. This can be done in person, over the phone, via email, or at the company's shop location.

* Conduct diagnostic and analytical tests to diagnose and repair various wireless communication equipment such as dispatch consoles, paging infrastructure, trunked radio systems, and mobile installations.

* Analyze and interpret diagnostic test results to effectively repair and program radios and wireless equipment.

* Collaborate with customers, vendors, and shop management to determine deadlines, urgency, timelines, and schedules for completing repairs, maintenance, and programming, ensuring that the customer's needs are met.

* Prepare quotes and bids for customer projects.

* Act as the shop's safety coordinator, working closely with the safety representative from the company's headquarters to implement safety training and protocols.

* Perform wireless communications system programming according to industry practices and vendor criteria.

* Install radio and wireless mobile and base communications systems following industry practices and vendor criteria.

* Due to the nature of supporting public safety and first responder customers, technicians may be required to be on call, including overtime, with minimal notice.

* Be willing to travel, which may include local daily travel or overnight stays.


Education and/or Experience:

* Three to five years of experience in 2-way radio and wireless communication systems theory. Proficient in computer usage, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of complex communication systems.

* An associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or vocational school in electronics and wireless system repair is preferred but not required.

* Experience in diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and programming wireless communication equipment, such as 2-way radios, transmitters, receivers, and antennas for customers.

* Experienced with dispatch consoles, paging infrastructure, and trunked radio systems. Knowledge of radio repair, mobile installations, DC, AC, and RF Theory as it applies to wireless communications.


Licenses, Certifications:

* An industry license (FCC, FICA or NARTE).

* A valid driver license and insurability in the state of employment.

* CET or NABER certification.
