TITLE: Environmental Engineer

WORKING LOCATION: Onshore Treatment Facility (OTF) Theodore, Alabama

FULL-TIME/PART-TIME: Full-Time

SCHEDULE: Mon -Thurs - 9 hours /Friday - 4 hours

FLSA STATUS: Salaried - Exempt 

POSITION SUMMARY: The Environmental Engineer reports to the Environmental Manager and is responsible for providing environmental compliance (air, water, and waste) supporting engineering, construction, regulatory, drilling and production teams at OTF and Mobile Bay. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as local environmental expert and as a local point of contact in the area of Environmental Compliance for OTF and Mobile Bay assets. 
  • Be the focal point for agency correspondence for environmental permits and plans
  • Manage the compliance for Clean Air and Clean Water act, RCRA, CERCLA and EPCRA for OTF and Mobile Bay.
  • Ensure all required environmental reports are completed and submitted to corporate environmental personnel prior to submission to agencies. 
  • Gather data for new permit and renewal applications, report deviations, notices of violations, reports and any other requests for information from environmental agencies.
  • Monitor company compliance with regulations through review of discharge monitoring reports, hazardous waste report, surveys and other documents and correspondence submitted to regulatory agencies, including reviewing reports from operating personnel in order to assure full compliance.
  • Assist Engineering, Operations, and corporate HSE team in planning for compliance with regulations in connection with new or modified operations (e.g., new plants or processes, formulation changes) in order to assure compliance.
  • Conduct training for operating personnel in order to meet regulatory needs at OTF and Mobile Bay. 
  • Be visible and available to provide environmental support to operations and promote HSE&R expectations to operations management.
  • Lead site-level environmental audits and compliance.

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Civil/ Environmental Engineering or related field preferred
  • Certificates or licenses in specialized environmental areas helpful
  • 2-4 years of experience with environmental regulations relating to the oil and gas industry, including EPA and ADEM.
  • Knowledge of federal environmental regulations
  • Good organization skills with the ability to multi-task with changing priorities.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to interact in a positive manner with others.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and be driven to produce results at both an individual and team level.
  • Computer input and data management skills are required.
  • Experience with MS Office (Outlook, Excel and Word), PDF and other basic computer skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Office environment primarily with both plant and offshore platform walk through/visits. 
  • Routine work is performed at a workstation on a networked computer.
  • Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling and twisting as necessary.
  • May be required to occasionally lift up to 10 pounds. 
  • Requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (safety glasses, earplugs, supplied air respirators, appropriate footwear, etc.) when visiting field sites.
  • May require local and national travel.
  • Works 9/80 schedule. Monday – Thur, 9 hours each day, 8 hours alternate Fridays and off the other alternating Fridays – on location. 
  • Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer and/or electronic device
  • Ability to have face to face conversations with stakeholders, peers and management
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time and move around work environment as needed
  • Comply with company policies and procedure
