Mobile Battery Storage information

What is mobile battery storage?

Mobile battery storage refers to portable energy storage systems that use rechargeable batteries to store and supply electricity when and where it’s needed. These units are often used in situations where grid power is unavailable, unreliable, or for temporary events such as festivals, construction sites, or emergency backup. Mobile battery storage systems can help reduce reliance on diesel generators, lower emissions, and provide flexible, clean power solutions. They come in various sizes and capacities, making them suitable for both small-scale and large-scale applications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a mobile battery storage technician?

To thrive as a Mobile Battery Storage Technician, you need a strong understanding of electrical systems, battery technologies, and safety protocols, often supported by a relevant technical diploma or certification in electrical engineering or renewable energy. Familiarity with battery management systems (BMS), diagnostic tools, and compliance with industry standards such as OSHA or NFPA is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are vital soft skills for diagnosing issues and collaborating with teams or clients. These competencies ensure safe installation, maintenance, and operation of mobile battery storage units, supporting energy reliability and customer satisfaction.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in mobile battery storage roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Mobile Battery Storage often encounter challenges such as ensuring the safe transportation and deployment of battery units, maintaining compliance with evolving safety and environmental regulations, and troubleshooting technical issues in the field. These challenges can be addressed by staying updated with industry standards, participating in regular safety training, and collaborating closely with both engineering and logistics teams. Additionally, developing strong problem-solving skills and keeping detailed maintenance records can help anticipate and resolve issues efficiently.

What is the difference between Mobile Battery Storage vs Solar Battery Technician?

AspectMobile Battery StorageSolar Battery Technician
CredentialsRelevant certifications in energy storage and electrical systemsCertifications in solar installation and electrical work
Work EnvironmentFieldwork involving mobile units, energy storage systems, and electrical maintenanceInstallation, maintenance, and repair of solar battery systems on-site
Industry UsageEnergy storage solutions for various applications including renewable energySolar energy systems and battery storage for solar power setups

Mobile Battery Storage professionals focus on designing, installing, and maintaining mobile energy storage units, often working with electrical systems and energy management. Solar Battery Technicians specialize in installing and servicing solar battery systems for solar power setups. While both roles require electrical certifications and involve energy storage, Mobile Battery Storage roles are broader, covering various storage solutions, whereas Solar Battery Technicians focus specifically on solar energy applications.

Job description

Ambrosia Energy is on a mission to make solar + battery systems the fastest-to-deploy and most cost-effective energy source in the US and beyond. As global energy demand surges—driven by the rapid rise of data centers, electric vehicles, and future in-home robotics—the world stands at a critical energy inflection point. To meet this challenge, we need innovative, scalable power sources. Our engineering-led team, with expertise in designing and deploying satellite constellations (Swarm, Starlink Mobile), is now focused on energy on Earth. We're developing affordable, clean energy solutions with new battery storage systems. United by strong team camaraderie, we prioritize speed, rapid iteration, vertical integration, and a test-like-you-fly approach. We're committed to making an impact on the future of energy.

We are designing and developing a distributed battery storage system to pair with solar panels that are quick and easy to install. The system is simple, robust, reliable, and easy to manufacture at scale. The system will include highly efficient DC-DC conversion, solar MPPT, power distribution, no moving parts, and efficient cable management to make everything plug and play in the field.

Responsibilities
  • Design, analyze, and test highly efficient DC-DC power converters for harsh environments that require no fans or active cooling components.

  • Work on electrical power system and sub-system level design trades and develop requirements that are synergistic with the rest of the system.

  • Define and perform electrical power system verification testing and analysis, and write test procedures for the production technicians.

  • Work with multidisciplinary teams of design, test, and production engineers to create new state-of-the-art power electronics hardware.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or other STEM discipline.

  • 1+ years of professional experience in power converter development (internship experience is applicable).

  • Experience in simulation and lab testing of power electronics.

  • Hands-on experience with debugging, testing, and validating electrical systems using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and similar tools.

Preferred Skills or Experience
  • Strong grasp of DC-DC topologies, with ability to select optimal architectures and components.

  • Experience with AC-DC converters.

  • Familiarity with solar arrays as input power sources.

  • Familiarity with lithium-ion battery handling, safety, and usage.

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. The company is unable to sponsor employment visas at this time.
