Job Title: IT Systems Engineer
Location: Brewster - or H
Department: Administration
Reports to: IT Manager
Summary: This position is Hybrid capable. Provides oversight to the management, maintenance, and security of New Vision's server infrastructure. This position will ensure the smooth operation of servers and related systems, optimize performance, and implement necessary upgrades and patches. This includes ensuring the availability of virtualization hosts, configuring all new implementations, and developing processes and procedures for ongoing server environment management. Where applicable, this individual also plans and implements policies and procedures to ensure storage provisioning, efficiency, and maintenance consistent with organizational goals and industry best practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Supports New Vision Co-op's stated Vision, Mission, and Business Values.
• Projects a positive attitude to patrons and coworkers always.
• Provides outstanding and courteous customer service.
• Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot physical and virtual server infrastructure
• Administer Linux-based and Microsoft server operating systems, applications, and supporting services
• Manage virtualization hosts, server environments, and new infrastructure implementations
• Deploy, configure, and support self-hosted open-source applications and platforms.
• Monitor server performance, capacity, availability, and reliability; proactively address issues before they impact operations
• Implement server security controls, policies, procedures, patching, access controls, and firewall-related protections
• Safeguard infrastructure from unauthorized access, data breaches, cyber threats, and operational risk
• Plan and perform system upgrades, patches, migrations, and infrastructure improvements
• Participate in capacity planning and help develop long-term goals for systems, software, storage, and infrastructure
• Implement and maintain backup, disaster recovery, redundancy, and archiving processes to protect organizational data and assets
• Develop and maintain automation scripts, configuration standards, and repeatable deployment processes.
• Evaluate open-source technologies based on reliability, maintainability, security, interoperability, and alignment with business needs
• Maintain accurate technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and infrastructure records.
• Work with IT staff, departments, vendors, and service providers to support business systems
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience
Two or four-year degree from an accredited college or university in information technology-related field; One year of related experience.
Language Skills

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills
Knowledge of and experience with computer hardware and software; Familiarity with networking concepts and cabling practices; Experience with Microsoft Office products, Office 365 preferred; Knowledge of Microsoft server and workstation operating systems and SQL databases; Familiarity with mobile computing and applications. Familiarity with best security practices.
