Job description

Overview

Steampunk is seeking a Solution Architect responsible for designing and guiding the implementation of scalable, secure, and maintainable technology solutions that support client mission objectives. The Solution Architect works closely with program leadership, engineers, architects, and stakeholders to translate business and technical requirements into well-architected systems.

This role provides technical leadership across the solution lifecycle, ensuring architectural consistency, integration across systems, and alignment with modern engineering practices such as Agile delivery, DevSecOps, and AWS cloud-native architectures. The Solution Architect evaluates technology options, establishes architectural standards, and supports engineering teams in implementing resilient, scalable, and secure solutions utilizing Java, React, HTML, and Python.

Contributions

Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as the Solution Architect for complex technology programs, guiding the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions.
  • Define and communicate the overall solution architecture, ensuring alignment with mission needs, enterprise architecture standards, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with program leadership, product owners, engineers, business analysts, and stakeholders to translate functional and technical requirements into solution designs.
  • Lead technical design discussions and architecture reviews to ensure consistency, maintainability, scalability, and security across systems and applications.
  • Evaluate technology options and architectural approaches, identifying advantages, risks, and tradeoffs to inform solution decisions.
  • Define and promote architecture standards, design patterns, and best practices to ensure consistency across systems and development teams.
  • Guide engineering teams in implementing architecture patterns including microservices, RESTful APIs, event-driven architectures, and AWS cloud-native solutions utilizing Java, React, HTML, and Python.
  • Support integration of enterprise applications, APIs, services, and data across cloud and hybrid environments to ensure cohesive solution architecture.
  • Ensure solutions incorporate security, performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability considerations throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Partner with DevSecOps teams to promote automated testing, continuous integration, continuous delivery, infrastructure-as-code, and cloud automation practices.
  • Develop and maintain architecture artifacts including solution diagrams, technical documentation, architecture roadmaps, and technical standards.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and architectural guidance to engineering teams and other technical staff.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, engineering, security, infrastructure, and operations to ensure cohesive solution delivery.
  • Support continuous improvement of engineering practices, architecture standards, technical governance, and solution delivery processes.
Qualifications
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in software engineering, systems architecture, or technical leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing complex enterprise technology solutions.
  • Experience defining solution architectures for distributed systems, RESTful APIs, microservices, and cloud-native applications.
  • Experience designing and implementing AWS cloud architectures and modern cloud-native platforms.
  • Experience architecting solutions utilizing Java, React, HTML, and Python.
  • Experience integrating enterprise applications, APIs, services, and data across cloud and hybrid environments.
  • Experience working within Agile and DevSecOps environments supporting modern software delivery practices.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate technologies and recommend architectural approaches based on technical, business, and mission requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience leading or guiding engineering teams through architecture design and implementation decisions.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to establish credibility with stakeholders and build consensus across technical and program teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce architecture documentation, technical designs, and solution artifacts.
  • AWS cloud certification preferred.
  • AI experience preferred.
