Job description

About GNC
Since 1935, GNC has been a global leader in health and wellness innovation, inspiring people to achieve their goals with a trusted and dynamic range of products. As #TeamGNC, we prioritize our consumers, constantly collaborating and developing new ideas to deliver cutting-edge solutions. Our team is passionate about driving change and turning aspirations into actions. We believe that good health is the greatest gift, and there's nothing more rewarding than helping others achieve it. Join us in empowering others to Live Well!
What We're Looking For:
At GNC we embrace a "Live Well" philosophy, fostering a dynamic environment where innovation meets passion. Whether someone is an athlete or just starting to focus on their health, we want to deliver the cutting-edge products they deserve. We are looking for an individual who is excited and eager to play a pivotal role in driving excellence in the health and wellness industry. This position offers the opportunity to engage in a collaborative environment where you will make a personal impact every day.
The Lead Product Manager, Mobile App owns the strategy and execution behind GNC's mobile app as a first-class, native, mobile-first channel. This role builds and elevates native iOS and Android app capabilities that advance GNC's strategic commercial objectives, deepening our relationship with customers while driving sales and profitability. This position sits at the intersection of commercial teams, GNC Tech, and user experience, taking end-to-end ownership of consumer-centric mobile experiences that go beyond the website - leveraging native, mobile-only capabilities while making deliberate calls on where thoughtful parity with our website matters most.
In partnership with commercial leadership and GNC Tech engineering teams, this role owns the mobile app product lifecycle end to end - ideation, definition, prioritization, and portfolio/roadmap management. The Lead Product Manager maintains meaningfully current, hands-on knowledge of the mobile app landscape, emerging native mobile capabilities, and what drives mobile app adoption and engagement, and serves as the subject matter expert for the app's capabilities and processes. Working cross-functionally, this person is accountable for the answers, the problem-solving, and the recommendations that organizational leaders rely on to improve processes and continually optimize the mobile customer experience - partnering closely with GNC Tech to ensure the roadmap reflects what can realistically be delivered, and when.
What You'll Do:
This is a Full-Time Salary Position
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Roadmap & Portfolio Ownership: Own the end-to-end mobile app product roadmap for iOS and Android - manage requirements, prioritize complex deliverables, drive requirement discussions, and identify key technology and solution gaps specific to each native platform.
  • Product Lifecycle Ownership: Own the mobile app product lifecycle from beginning to end: definition, design, development, project management, implementation, testing, app store submission/review, launch, and post-launch optimization.
  • Execution & Delivery Accountability: Accountable for prioritizing epics, writing and grooming stories, driving testing and validation of features, and measuring success post-release using app-specific metrics (app store ratings/reviews, retention, session frequency, push engagement, crash-free sessions).
  • Cross-Functional Requirements Leadership: Partner with commercial teams, UI/UX, and GNC Tech to understand customer pain points and translate customer needs into commercial, product, and mobile user experience requirements, applying platform-specific design guidance (Apple Human Interface Guidelines, Google Material Design).
  • Native Mobile Capability Expertise: Maintain meaningfully current, hands-on knowledge of emerging native iOS and Android capabilities (e.g., push notifications, biometric authentication, AR/camera features, digital wallet/NFC, widgets, wearables integration, offline mode, deep linking) and own the assessment of which are right for our customers.
  • Mobile-Only Differentiation Strategy: Define and own true mobile-only features and experiences (e.g., app-exclusive offers, location-based personalization, scan-to-shop, biometric checkout) that differentiate the app and drive adoption, engagement, and retention - owning the strategy for where the app should maintain feature parity with our website versus diverge to leverage native mobile strengths.
  • Technology Partnership & Trade-off Ownership: Partner with GNC Tech in the evaluation, selection, and management of new mobile technologies and SDKs by understanding the technical complexity of features on the backlog, and own the right technical trade-offs alongside the engineering team (native vs. cross-platform, third-party SDKs, app performance, battery/data impact). Strong technical communication skills required.
  • Product Planning & Release Governance: Lead the product planning process, owning the development of requirements documents (user stories with acceptance criteria, use cases); work closely with UX to oversee the design of the mobile user experience; own release goals, app store submission/review cycles, prioritization, implementation, and the resolution of escalated problems.
  • Performance Analysis & Reporting: Own the review of financial performance and analysis of key mobile app metrics (downloads, DAU/MAU, retention, conversion, app store ratings) in partnership with commercial teams; perform market research and usability tests; and own communication plans for projects, including status reporting to management.
  • Enablement & Documentation: Own the development of training materials and process documentation updates for all new functionality.
  • Market Intelligence & Best Practices: Research and recommend best practices based on competitive analysis of leading mobile apps and emerging mobile technology trends, with a deep understanding of what drives mobile app adoption and engagement (app store optimization, onboarding, push/notification strategy, re-engagement). Partner to incorporate testing (A/B, UX) for all path-to-purchase projects within the app.
  • Hands-On Delivery: Take on additional duties as assigned, with the willingness to roll up your sleeves to ensure on-time delivery of high-quality, native iOS and Android features.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for supervising multiple projects
  • Responsible for supervising external contractors

PHYSICAL ASPECTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Hybrid work environment, 3 days in-person attendance (Pittsburgh, PA) in addition to ability to work remotely.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands or fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • Regularly/Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually low/moderate.

* Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE:
  • The mobile app is recognized internally and externally as a first-class, native iOS and Android channel - not a scaled-down version of the website
  • Mobile-only features ship deliberately, with a clear, owned point of view on parity versus divergence from the website
  • Commercial teams and GNC Tech trust the roadmap because it reflects real technical trade-offs and delivery capacity
  • App store ratings, retention, engagement, and crash-free sessions trend in the right direction release over release
  • The Lead Product Manager is the go-to subject matter expert for the app's capabilities, roadmap, and performance

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in technology, commercial/business studies, marketing, ecommerce, engineering, or a related field
  • 8+ years of experience in mobile app, digital, or product management required, including demonstrable ownership of a native iOS and/or Android consumer app
  • Meaningfully current, hands-on experience with the modern native mobile app ecosystem and emerging capabilities (push, biometrics, AR/camera, wallet/NFC, widgets, wearables, offline support), platform guidelines (Apple Human Interface Guidelines, Google Material Design), machine learning concepts, search fundamentals, A/B testing, and approaches to personalization
  • Deep understanding of what drives mobile app adoption, activation, retention, and engagement, including app store optimization (ASO), onboarding, push/notification strategy, and re-engagement tactics
  • Proven experience owning delivery within a complex software development environment, including native app release cycles and app store submission/review processes
  • Strong leadership skills, with experience managing or mentoring and developing a team of product managers, developers, and scrum teams
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across commercial teams and GNC Tech
  • Experience developing and owning execution of mobile product strategies that drive revenue growth and deepen customer engagement
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions
  • Deep knowledge of the native mobile app development and design process, with a clear, owned point of view on where the app should maintain parity with our website versus offer mobile-only experiences
  • Agile development experience with demonstrated understanding of the techniques and methods of modern product discovery and product delivery; CSPO certification desired
  • Working knowledge of Jira, Confluence, mobile analytics tools (e.g., Firebase, Amplitude), Figma, and app store consoles (App Store Connect, Google Play Console)
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to own many projects at once and adapt priorities as needed
  • Self-starter; able to work independently when necessary
  • Highly motivated; consistent in work ethic

LEADERSHIP ATTRIBUTES:
  • Owns outcomes, not just tasks - takes accountability for the app's success end to end
  • Comfortable making and defending native platform trade-off calls
  • Customer-obsessed with a strong point of view on mobile-first experience design
  • Trusted partner to both commercial teams and GNC Tech
  • Passion for building best-in-class native mobile products
