Differences in platform capabilities, device constraints, and interpretation of design specifications can lead to discrepancies between the original design and the final product. Clear communication, regular feedback loops, and the use of collaborative tools like design systems or shared prototyping platforms help bridge these gaps. Building strong relationships with developers and understanding basic technical limitations also contribute to smoother project execution.

Job description

About Xenter
Xenter is advancing a new generation of medical technologies-from diagnostic tools that help identify conditions earlier to procedural innovations designed to support more cost-effective treatment options across a broad patient population. By improving how conditions are identified and how procedures are performed, Xenter provides clinicians with real-time insight to support more precise and consistent decision-making. These products are designed with a strong focus on data, validation, and continuous improvement.
Building on this foundation, Xenter is developing a connected clinical intelligence platform that captures and organizes data across procedures and care settings. This platform enables health systems to expand access to advanced diagnostic tools while helping address barriers to care. Over time, this approach is designed to support more efficient care delivery and lower the total cost of care-creating value for providers, health systems, and patients.
At Xenter, you'll join an entrepreneurial team where innovation moves quickly, ideas become reality, and every employee has the opportunity to help shape technologies with the potential to change healthcare worldwide. You'll work alongside industry leaders, influence the direction of a rapidly growing company, and help bring breakthrough technologies from concept to commercialization.
The Senior Flutter/Mobile App Engineer is responsible for the architecture and delivery of Xenter's patient- and provider-facing mobile applications. This position owns cross-platform application development for the Xenter ecosystems, including integration with connected devices, and sets technical direction for mobile development as the team grows.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design and build cross-platform mobile applications in Flutter/Dart for iOS and Android supporting patient- and provider-facing workflows
  • Own mobile application architecture, state management, and code quality standards
  • Design and implement Cubit/BLoC-driven screens with matching state and repository layers
  • Extend our Dio-based networking stack: interceptors, retries, timeouts, error normalization, certificate pinning
  • Integrate with FHIR R4 clinical data via native platform channels
  • Build against our LLM chat backend with role-scoped prompts and PHI-safe streaming
  • Own testing at every layer: widget, cubit, repository, and security regression suites
  • Integrate mobile applications with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) connected devices in coordination with the device connectivity team
  • Build reliable offline-first experiences appropriate for clinical and field-use environments
  • Lead App Store and Google Play release processes, including versioning and compliance requirements
  • Provide technical mentorship to other mobile engineers and help establish mobile engineering standards
  • Coordinate with design, product, and clinical stakeholders to translate clinical and patient workflows into application requirements

Required Education and Experience
  • 5+ years of mobile development experience, including 3+ years in Flutter/Dart
  • Strong understanding of mobile application architecture patterns (BLoC, Provider, Riverpod, or similar)
  • Deep familiarity with the widget lifecycle, build performance, and platform channels
  • Strong REST fundamentals: verbs, status codes, idempotency, pagination, error contracts
  • Hands-on with dio (interceptors, transformers, cancel tokens) or equivalent (http, chopper, retrofit)
  • OAuth 2.0 (authorization code + PKCE), JWT parsing and refresh flows, session lifecycle
  • Certificate/SPKI pinning and understanding of TLS trust chains
  • Experience with layered caching: in-memory, disk, and HTTP-level
  • Comfortable choosing between flutter_secure_storage, shared_preferences, hive, isar, sqflite, or drift based on data sensitivity and query needs
  • Cache invalidation strategies (TTL, ETag, event-driven)
  • Understanding of iOS provisioning, entitlements (HealthKit, Keychain sharing), and App Store submission
  • Experience shipping production applications to both the App Store and Google Play
  • Experience with native iOS/Android concepts and platform channels
  • Demonstrated ability to own technical decisions independently within a small team

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Experience integrating mobile applications with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) medical or IoT devices
  • Experience building software in a regulated industry (healthcare, medical device)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD for mobile (Fastlane, Codemagic, or similar)
  • Experience with accessibility standards for clinical or patient-facing applications
  • Healthcare, HIPAA, or other regulated-data experience (finance, government)
  • HealthKit, Google Fit, or FHIR R4 exposure
  • OAuth with SMART-on-FHIR or Epic/Cerner integrations
  • LLM/chat product experience: streaming responses, prompt guardrails, PHI redaction

Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and monitors. This is largely a sedentary role involving extended periods of computer use; some tasks may require the ability to move within an office setting.
