Medical Laboratory Technician

Citizens Health is recruiting an MLT to work full-time in our laboratory.

  • Family Center for Health Care - an outpatient rural health clinic

  • Citizens Clubhouse - an onsite childcare center that cares for children 6 weeks to school age for our workforce
  • Citizens Medical Equipment - our durable medical equipment business
  • Palace Drug Store - our outpatient pharmacy

    Location: 100 E College Ave, Colby, Kansas

    Position Information: To perform all of the repetitive (high volume) tests in a modern clinical laboratory, identifying direct causes (technical or instrumental) of problems and making corrections by using preset strategies, as well as using and monitoring quality control procedures in the laboratory within predetermined parameters.

    Responsible to the laboratory manager.

    Days: Sunday through Saturday

    Hours: 5:30 pm through 5:30 am, 3, 12-hour shifts per week

    Pay Range: Starting wage and dependent upon experience;

    What you'll do:

    • Perform analytical tests in Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Immunology, Immunohematology, Urinalysis, and Microbiology.
    • Collect and prepare specimens.
    • Performs and records all quality control procedures required for the tests assayed.
    • Performs and records routine instrument checks and maintenance procedures.
    • Completes other duties as assigned.

    • MLT - Must be a graduate with an Associates Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (Must be able to obtain certification within one year of hire).
    • Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports and responding correspondence.

    • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
    • Ability to maintain quality control standards.

    • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
    • Ability to communicate clearly.

    Typical Working Conditions:

    This position may result in possible exposure to infection from disease-bearing specimens. The Medical Laboratory Technician is regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne and airborne diseases, electrical and radiant energy hazards, potentially hazardous chemicals, odorous chemicals and specimens and must be able to handle emergency or crisis situations. This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented.

    Typical Physical Demands:

    Requires standing/walking 90% of the time to move throughout the hospital to obtain lab specimens, to run lab tests, to calibrate machines, etc. There is bending/stooping required in this 90% of the time for 40% of the time to draw specimens. Requires sitting 10% of the time to look in the microscope and perform blood bank functions. Requires exerting 50 pounds of force occasionally to move saline boxes and other supplies. Normal vision and hearing, with or without correction, that is adequate for all types of interpersonal communication are required. Requires manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination and analytical skills. This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented.
