JOB TITLE: Ice Hockey Coach
DEPARTMENT: Program Delivery
REPORTS TO: Program Coordinators

GENERAL SUMMARY:
The mission of Ed Snider Youth Hockey &Education is to create opportunity for under-resourced youth of the GreaterPhiladelphia Region to prosper in life. The intended impact is thatparticipating youth will become Snider student-athletes with age-appropriatesocial-emotional strengths and skills to succeed and contribute as students,employees, and community members.
The Ice Hockey Coach position at Snider Hockey is tasked with providing on and office support to students that range in age from 5-18 years old. They are in charge of ensuring developmental standards are met and to make sure that every participant is provided a safe environment to learn a new skill. Candidates must also work to instill Snider's core values into their daily work with all students. Coaches are also expected to assist in making sure all program sites are maintained and equipment is organized and available for when students may need it. Ideal candidates would be team players, have a desire to make a difference in the lives of young people and have the ability to effectively teach the game of ice hockey.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Foster a supportive learning atmosphere for all Snider Hockey & Education participants.
  • Lead after-school and weekend ice hockey practices at Philadelphia area rinks for beginner and intermediate-level hockey players.
  • Ensure the safety of all participants both on and off the ice.
  • Cooperate and communicate with Snider staff and volunteers to help deliver a consistently excellent experience for all participants.
  • Promote positive character development of Snider participants by discussing the importance of education, teamwork, effort, respect, and related values.
  • Assist in the sizing, provision, and distribution of equipment; confirm that all players wear properly fitting equipment on the ice.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Candidates must possess significant ice hockey coaching and playing experience.
  • All instructors are expected to serve as teachers and role models both on and off the ice, and must, therefore, exhibit maturity and professionalism.
  • Applicant must be reliable and possess both a general willingness to assume any and all jobs and an ability to work in a high profile environment.
  • Attention to detail and strong communication skills are critical.
  • Hiring is conditional on the successful completion of a criminal background check; applicants should also either possess or be able to attain required background clearances and USA Hockey coaching certification.

INTELLECTUAL AND SOCIAL DEMANDS:
While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is continuously asked to multi-task under time limits and maintain emotional control under stress. The position requires constant attention to precise details and specified standards including; following simple to complex (more than three steps) instructions, and concentration which frequently extends beyond 30 minutes at a time.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, skate, stick handle, balance, stoop, kneel, bend and use repetitive motions. Occasionally moves about inside storage areas to access equipment, cabinets, and office machinery. Occasional pushing, pulling, lifting, and/or moving up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The essential responsibilities of this position are performed indoors, mainly at ice hockey rinks but including occasional visits to the office and special event sites (indoor/outdoor in the weather conditions prevalent at the time).รขโ‚ฌยฏ The noise level in the work environments can range from moderate to loud during events/programs, and is minimal during non-event/program times.
SCHEDULE:
Most work is completed after school/evening hours. There may also be opportunities to work standard work hours and/or weekend duties in the Greater Philadelphia area
