Job description

Position Summary

The Health & Safety Superintendent is a handsโ€‘on technical safety role within MRG's Health & Safety Department, reporting to the General Manager on an interim basis and thereafter to the Health & Safety Manager. This role owns the site's JSA/JHA program and incident investigation support, oversees MSHA training compliance. This is a strong fit for an experienced mining safety professional who wants a working technical role with real mentorship responsibility, not a pure administrative function.

Key Responsibilities JSA/JHA Program
  • Own the development, rollout, and ongoing maintenance of the site's Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) program
  • Conduct field observations and audits to verify JSA/JHA compliance across shifts
Incident Investigation Support
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action recommendations
Training Compliance Oversight
  • Track and maintain MSHA Part 48 training records and refresher schedules
  • Support delivery of new hire safety orientation and ongoing training sessions
MSHA Compliance Support
  • Own inspection readiness, documentation, and citation response
  • Maintain working knowledge of Part 48 requirements as they apply to dayโ€‘toโ€‘day site operations
Emergency Preparedness Support
  • Partner with the security team to lead execution of the site emergency response plan, including first aid/AED coverage coordination
  • Assist with AirMedCare Network (AMCN) program coordination as needed
Qualifications Required
  • 5+ years of safety experience in mining or another heavy industrial, MSHAโ€‘regulated environment
  • Solid working knowledge of MSHA Part 48 standards
  • Demonstrated experience conducting JSAs/JHAs and incident investigations
  • Ability to mentor and train less experienced staff in a handsโ€‘on, fieldโ€‘based setting
  • Ability to work and live onsite at a remote mining operation
  • Blue card holder or the ability to obtain โ€“ within 1 year
Preferred
  • Experience with metal mining and processing operations
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Health, or a related field, or equivalent experience
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to traverse rugged, uneven mine site terrain, including inclines and unpaved surfaces
  • Exposure to outdoor conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and dust
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Comfortable wearing required PPE for extended periods, including respirators when necessary
  • Valid driver's license; ability to operate a 4WD site vehicle
Work Environment

This is a fullโ€‘time, onsite role at MRG's remote Silver Peak, Nevada operation, with mancamp housing provided. Working a 4/3 schedule, the Health & Safety Superintendent partners closely with site leadership while providing dayโ€‘toโ€‘day mentorship to the EHS Technician. The role interfaces regularly with department leaders across the operation and requires a handsโ€‘on presence in the field.
