What is the highest paid job in mining?

These positions typically require advanced certifications, leadership abilities, and knowledge of mining operations, and they can earn six-figure salaries depending on the project size and location.

What do riggers do in the mines?

Mining riggers are responsible for installing, maintaining, and dismantling heavy equipment and lifting systems used in mining operations. They use cranes, hoists, and rigging tools to move large machinery safely and efficiently, often working in challenging environments that require specialized skills and safety certifications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Mining Rigger, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Mining Rigger, you need a strong understanding of rigging principles, load calculations, and safety procedures, often backed by a high-risk work license and industry training. Familiarity with rigging equipment, cranes, winches, and adherence to mine safety management systems is crucial. Attention to detail, teamwork, and effective communication help ensure smooth coordination and hazard mitigation on site. These skills and qualities are vital for maintaining workplace safety, minimizing accidents, and ensuring efficient material movement in mining operations.

What are some common challenges Mining Riggers face on the job, and how can they be addressed?

Mining Riggers often work in physically demanding and hazardous environments, where they are responsible for assembling, maintaining, and operating rigging equipment for moving heavy materials. Common challenges include adhering to strict safety protocols, managing equipment malfunctions, and working in confined or underground spaces. To address these challenges, riggers should participate in regular safety training, perform routine equipment inspections, and collaborate closely with team members to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and safely. Open communication and adherence to site-specific safety guidelines are essential for minimizing risks and ensuring successful operations.

How much are riggers paid?

Mining riggers typically earn between $20 and $35 per hour, depending on experience, location, and certifications. Overtime pay and hazard allowances may also apply, especially in remote or high-risk environments.

About the Role
Fulcrum Lifting, LLC is a fast-growing supplier of rigging, lifting, and load-securement products serving the construction, energy, manufacturing, maritime, and industrial maintenance markets. As demand for our products and engineered solutions accelerates, we are hiring a Rigging Specialist to be the technical voice on the phone for both existing key accounts and new customer development.
This is a hybrid role that blends technical customer service with outbound phone sales. You will help customers specify the right slings, chain, wire rope, hoists, shackles, and below-the-hook devices for their lifts; quote and close orders; and grow a book of business by proactively building relationships with end users. The right person treats every call as an opportunity to make a customer safer and more productive โ€” and does so with the kind of integrity our brand is built on.
What Youโ€™ll Do
Customer Service amp; Technical Support
  • Be the technical first call. Answer inbound calls and emails from riggers, foremen, safety managers, and purchasing agents โ€” quickly, accurately, and with respect for their time.
  • Specify the right product. Translate a customerโ€™s lift (load weight, configuration, environment, sling angles, hitch type) into the correct sling, chain assembly, hardware, or below-the-hook solution.
  • Quote and close. Build accurate quotes, follow up promptly, and convert them into purchase orders. Coordinate with operations on lead times, custom fabrication, and delivery.
  • Solve problems end to end. Own issues through resolution โ€” returns, certification paperwork, freight โ€” so the customer never has to chase you.
Outbound Phone Sales
  • Make the calls. Execute a structured outbound calling cadence to lapsed customers, target prospects, and assigned territories. Hold yourself accountable to daily call and pipeline activity targets.
  • Hunt new business. Qualify leads from marketing, trade shows, web inquiries, and self-sourced research. Open new accounts in the industries we serve.
  • Sell value, not price. Position our quality, service, inventory depth, certifications, and industry partners against lower-cost or commodity competitors.
  • Track everything. Log calls, opportunities, and next steps in CRM so pipeline and forecast are always current.
Key Account Management
  • Grow a book of business. Own a portfolio of named key accounts. Build multi-threaded relationships across purchasing, operations, safety, and ownership.
  • Run a business review cadence. Conduct regular check-ins, share usage and spend data, and proactively recommend product standardization and stocking programs where it benefits the customer.
  • Defend and expand. Protect existing revenue, win share of wallet on adjacent product lines, and grow account revenue year over year.
  • Be the customerโ€™s advocate. Bring customer feedback back into the business โ€” on product, pricing, lead times, and service โ€” so we keep getting better.
Integrity amp; Compliance
  • Get the lift right. Apply ASME B30, OSHA 1910/1926, and manufacturer working load limits correctly every time. If a configuration isnโ€™t safe, you say so โ€” even when it costs us the order.
  • Document properly. Ensure certs, proof-test records, and material traceability are accurate and delivered with every order that requires them.
  • Honor commitments. Do what you said youโ€™d do, by when you said youโ€™d do it.
What Weโ€™re Looking For
Required
  • 3โ€“5 years of experience in a rigging, lifting, industrial distribution, or related technical sales/customer service role.
  • Working knowledge of rigging products: wire rope and synthetic slings, alloy chain, shackles, hooks, rigging hardware, hoists, come-alongs, load binders, and below-the-hook devices.
  • Familiarity with applicable safety standards (ASME B30 series, OSHA 1910.184 / 1926) and the ability to apply working load limits, sling angle factors, and D/d ratios in real-world conversations.
  • Demonstrated success in outbound phone sales, inside sales, or account management โ€” with comfort making outbound calls daily.
  • Strong written and verbal communication. You can explain a technical concept to a buyer who isnโ€™t technical, and to an engineer who is.
  • Proficiency with CRM (e.g., HubSpot,) and standard quoting/ERP workflows.
  • High personal integrity. You are honest with customers, teammates, and yourself โ€” especially when itโ€™s inconvenient.
Preferred
  • Qualified Rigger or Qualified Rigger/Signal Person certification, LEEA certification, or AWRF-affiliated training.
  • Experience selling into construction, oil amp; gas, renewables (wind), utilities, marine, mining, or heavy manufacturing.
  • Background as a working rigger, crane operator, technical sales in industry adjacent roles (e.g. rental) or shop fabricator who has moved into a commercial role.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
What Success Looks Like
  • First 90 days: Complete product and systems onboarding, ride along on key account calls, and take ownership of your assigned book and outbound list.
  • Six months: Hitting daily activity targets, consistently quoting and closing, with a clean and current pipeline in CRM.
  • Twelve months: Measurable revenue growth on your key accounts, a documented set of new accounts opened, and a reputation โ€” internally and externally โ€” as the person customers want to call.
Compensation amp; Benefits
  • Salary: $65,000 โ€“ $75,000 depending on experience, sales commission potential.
  • Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, basic life, voluntary life, and disability coverage offered
  • Retirement: 401(k) with company match
  • Time off: PTO (paid time off accrual)
  • Other: Paid training and certification reimbursement (Qualified Rigger, Qualified Inspector, etc.), life and disability insurance, and parental leave
  • Schedule: In-Office 5 days per week 8am โ€“ 4:30pm Mon- Fri
