Job description

Project Planner / Scheduler

Position Summary

JW Williams is seeking an experienced Project Planner / Scheduler to support the successful execution of large, multi-discipline fabrication projects. This position is responsible for developing, maintaining, and communicating detailed project schedules using Primavera P6, while also providing project document control and coordination support throughout the project lifecycle.

The ideal candidate has experience supporting engineering, procurement, fabrication, coatings, quality, and shipping activities within an industrial manufacturing, fabrication, EPC, or construction environment. This individual will work closely with Project Managers, Engineering, Procurement, Production, Quality, and Customers to ensure project schedules remain accurate and project documentation is organized and properly controlled.


Essential Responsibilities

Project Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop, maintain, and update detailed project schedules using Primavera P6.
  • Build resource-loaded schedules for large, multi-discipline fabrication projects.
  • Develop baseline schedules and maintain revisions throughout project execution.
  • Monitor project progress against schedule and identify critical path activities.
  • Perform schedule analysis and identify risks, delays, and recovery opportunities.
  • Coordinate schedule updates with Project Managers, Engineering, Procurement, Production, Quality, and subcontractors.
  • Produce weekly and monthly schedule reports for internal leadership and customers.
  • Support customer schedule reviews and progress meetings.
  • Analyze schedule impacts resulting from scope changes or change orders.
  • Assist Project Managers in developing mitigation and recovery plans when required.
  • Track engineering, material procurement, fabrication, painting, testing, inspections, and shipment milestones.

Document Control

  • Maintain project document control systems and filing structure.
  • Control distribution of drawings, specifications, procedures, schedules, and customer documentation.
  • Track document revisions and ensure current revisions are distributed to project teams.
  • Maintain transmittal logs and document registers.
  • Coordinate receipt and distribution of customer comments and engineering revisions.
  • Assist with turnover packages and project closeout documentation.
  • Ensure project records are complete, organized, and maintained in accordance with company procedures.

Project Coordination

  • Support Project Managers with project planning and execution.
  • Coordinate project status updates between departments.
  • Participate in project kickoff meetings and weekly progress meetings.
  • Assist with forecasting project completion dates and identifying schedule constraints.
  • Communicate schedule status to internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Help drive accountability by ensuring milestone dates and action items are tracked.

Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of project planning and scheduling experience.
  • Advanced proficiency with Primavera P6.
  • Experience developing and maintaining complex project schedules.
  • Experience supporting large, multi-discipline industrial, fabrication, manufacturing, EPC, oil & gas, mining, or construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of project controls, scheduling principles, and critical path methodology.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Preferred

  • Experience in fabrication, pressure vessel manufacturing, structural steel, process equipment, or industrial construction.
  • Experience with document control systems.
  • Understanding of engineering drawing revision control.
  • Knowledge of earned value, resource planning, and project forecasting.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and project management software.
