About the role
The primary purpose of the Lead - Technical Services is to direct technical service delivery across assigned customer portfolios and geographic territories, ensuring measurable value creation through optimized operations, product stewardship and technology deployment that maximize safety, productivity and cost outcomes.
This role establishes technical standards, mentors technical teams, drives adoption of advanced blasting solutions including WebGen wireless technology and digital platforms, and translates customer requirements into differentiated service offerings that strengthen competitive positioning and sustainable revenue growth.
What you will be doing
Safety, Compliance and Leadership
  • Adhere to Orica Safe Operating Procedures and demonstrate leadership in Safety, Health, Environment and Security (SHES) issues through regular engagement with Orica SHES and regulatory authorities as required
  • Audit the competency of Technical Services (TS) and Operations personnel to ensure compliance with Group Standards
  • Lead teams to deliver technical projects that provide measurable value to customers
  • Responsible for leading and reviewing incident investigations

Customer Engagement and Business Development
  • Work closely with key potential clients to identify and create opportunities for Orica, focusing on differentiated products and service applications by leveraging knowledge of Orica's technology and a broad understanding of explosives and blasting applications in the mining, quarry, and construction industries Provide ongoing technical and implementation support as required
  • Assist Business Teams in pre-bid evaluations of customers to determine potential opportunities
  • Showcase Orica and client achievements through co-authoring papers and presentations at professional meetings
  • Promote the concept of new technologies and technical solutions to customers and within the business
  • Create Customer Technical Relationship and Engagement Plans and contribute to identifying customer needs and business development opportunities
  • Develop technical method statements for customer tender responses and support Territory Managers with value-added customer presentations

Technical Support, Training and Stewardship
  • Provide technical support to internal teams by offering field-based insights on product performance, application challenges, and improvement opportunities
  • Coordinate product stewardship activities to ensure correct and compliant use, storage, and application of Orica explosives and delivery systems
  • Deliver technical training and competency assessments for Orica personnel and customer teams, industrial partners and regulatory explosive handlers including product knowledge, safe operation, troubleshooting, and adoption of new technologies and ensure they are well informed of best practices
  • Support customers on-site by troubleshooting product and equipment issues, optimising blast designs, and recommending best practice application to improve safety, productivity, and cost outcomes
  • Assist with implementation of new blasting technologies and digital tools on customer sites, ensuring smooth integration and effective use
  • Conduct technical audits and prepare concise reports highlighting performance, compliance, and improvement opportunities

What you will bring
  • Minimum 7 years experience post professional qualification
  • Proven ability to lead a team, including building a collaborative approach in the development of the direction and operations of the workstream.
  • Proven influencer, able to manage processes across multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Experience in implementing process improvement initiatives would be desirable.
  • Demonstrated skills associated with building strong vendor &/or customer relationships
  • Financial accumen & budgeting experience.
  • Strong communication skills for team leadership and customer interactions
  • Technical aptitude for learning new technologies including drone piloting (will support for obtaining licensing)

Role dimensions
  • Management of a team of 7+ members
  • Travel: 50% throughout GA, NC, SC, FL, AL
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, adjusted to travel schedule needs

Your qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, preferring Mining Engineering
  • Work Experience as a mining engineer, mining sales engineer, or related industry experience, including experience with the technical, business, and operations aspects of the mining or explosive industry.
  • Drone license: A valid drone pilot license is required for this role. If you do not currently hold a license, you must be willing and able to obtain one upon hire. We are committed to supporting the successful candidate through the certification process and will provide assistance in obtaining the required license within the first three (3) months of employment.

Compensation
• Salary Range: $103,125 - $130,000
• Eligible for annual short-term incentive plan
