Job description

The primary role of an electrician is to disassemble, assemble, install, test, troubleshoot and repair electrical 
wiring, fixtures, control devices, and other equipment to required specifications meeting or exceeding Redpath 
and government regulations/standards in surface and underground operations.

Education:
1. Preferred University, college and/or trade school
 

Work Experience:
1. Preferred minimum 3 years' electrician experience in an underground mining environment.
2. If required to operate a company vehicle during the course of employment, must meet the requirements to be an eligible user of company vehicles. Must possess a current State Driver's License and acceptable driving record.
3. Proficient in the use of computers and associated software.
 

Knowledge Required: 
1. Must be capable of reading & understanding electrical drawings and schematics.
2. Must have a good knowledge and understanding of the applicable electrical code and regulations.
3. Must be capable of reading and interpreting basic electrical instruments and testers.
4. Perform safe and timely emergency repairs to equipment.
5. Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills, both verbal and written.
6. NFPA70E certification required (Based on site location).
Other Requirements:
1. Ability to pass background clearance check, drug screening and physical.
2. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
3. Ability to prepare written reports and correspondence.
4. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
 

1. Capable of troubleshooting, diagnostics testing and interpretation, maintenance and repair of ventilation fans, underground dewater pumps, lighting, electric/hydraulic mobile equipment, PLC and communication equipment, electronics, high voltage and low voltage power and control systems and ground fault monitor systems.
2. Assist and carry out repairs and maintenance to all underground sub-stations.
3. Must be capable of hanging 4/0 cable overhead.
4. Fabricate electrical panels and other necessary installation of electrical cables.
5. Install electrical apparatus.
6. Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner.
7. Ensure planned maintenance is carried out as per the maintenance schedule. 
8. Ensure that all the spares & tools are available and serviceable.
9. Able to work in excess of 40 hours a week, overtime, day and nights, weekends, holidays and shift rotations. 
10. Compliance with Redpath Core Competencies is an essential duty and responsibility.
11. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
